Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

6/3 Spring Century - Portland Roadies

I was going to entitle this 'Portland Roadies Paceline Machine' as Peregrine suggested, but keepin it real until someone confirms Ride of the Valkyries will be played at our start.. ha

'bout time for the thread to get started. Who's in? $20 postmarked by today, 5/24, or $25 day of.
https://www.pwtc.com/pdf/spring06.pdf

Registration opens 7 AM. Who's in for the 100 mile? 60 mile?

Say 8 AM start meet by registration?

Please click this as you type your response! https://www.royalty-free-classical-mu...ies-sample.mp3

I'm in for the century. I keep forgetting to mail my registration. Better get it in the mail today! After the monster cookie the Felt inspired me to buy a new Lemond Versailles. Now I don't have a built-in excuse for not keeping the pace...

At this point I'm planning on the metric. I'm not quite ready for a century yet, especially at the "Ride of the Valkyries" pace.

If the conditions are right. <5 hours shouldn't be a problem. Bringing the hammergel flask along for this one. Gonna need it!

5 hours ride time seems doable. Will need a couple stops of course.

In the five hour mark with stops that are resonable no loittering in the fields of hell to tantalize those that you have fallen past and just showing up so you can ridicule them

I hear you. I'm not really ready for a century either but I think that's the one I'll do I figure if I can go 60 miles with a hangover and 4 hours of sleep, I should be able to pull off a 100 miler... at least I'm hoping. Still, my guess is that it might take me just a taaaad over 5 hours

So, btw, could someone tell me where exactly is the starting point for this ride? The map they provide isn't exactly self-explanatory to me

The starting point is a big field thats a little northwest of the actual fairgrounds, there are signs. As far as a meeting place goes.... I dunno. Five hours WITH rests?!?! Whoooo daddy....I better bring some extra EPO.

Yes, I agree, 5 hours + stops. It's a bit difficult to average 20+ including breaks I would think. Unless you plan to be soul crushing domestiques at the tour this year.

Oh...there will be souls crushed. Orphans will be made. Women will weep. His unholiness will rise up like a pheonix from the deepest depths of hell, and rain fire (that is being us in this analogy) upon the peleton(that is being all the people out there...enjoying a nice ride).

Meet near registration tables at 8AM? That shouldn't be too hard to find I would think.

8am. We ride together... don't drop eachother. Try to get a good rhythm...try to use it as a stp warmup. If people jump onto our paceline...thats fine...but if they do that lame 'Lets drop back while the rider who just pulled gets back into his group' thing...we drop their asses.

Pedalmasher and Fishmel take five minute pulls.... everyone else can take like 2.

Be on the lookout for impromptu stop sign sprints.

Gonesh? Where are you? We're gonna need pics.... Pics of the destroyed souls.

Yup. this is great. If you're feeling strong. Pull longer, not faster. If you need a longer break. Pull for 20 seconds and come on back.

The souls will flounder in our wake.
