Potential of SNOW on my 400K brevet

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Potential of SNOW on my 400K brevet

I'm getting ready to do my 400K brevet this weekend, and I have been watching the weather. It's not pretty.

The ride will take me through the Rocky Mountains (gorgeous route!!) but it is supposed to be cool and rainy the whole way around .... the high is supposed to be +7C/45F and the low is supposed to be about +3C/37F. Rain and +3C in the mountains at fairly high elevations usually turns into things like freezing rain and snow.

I'm in the throws of a dilemma ... on the one had it is my inclination to carry a massive bag of stuff with me ..... but on the other hand I also know I will be riding (and climbing) in the mountains and a massive bag of stuff will be a detriment.

The joys of Randonneuring in Canada!!

Umm you do this for fun right? That mileage in that weather does not sound like fun to me.

This one is a qualifier for the BMB.

And in general I ride these for the fun, but also for the challenge. Sometimes more for the challenge than the fun.

She's just debating what to pack.

I had to look that up. I don't think I've ever seen Lost in Space.

Ah ... that's from Pretty in Pink, isn't it!!

The really disappointing part of the weather is that I won't be able to see the mountains!!

These are some photos of the scenery on the route.

Wow... Good luck anyway...
What do you want to take in your massive bag? I would just go with leg warmers, arm warmers and a goretex or something like that? What I do sometimes when I don't need the arm and leg warmers is tie them to the handlebar, so it doesn't take to much space. But hey, you must be the most experienced brevet rider on the forum, so you'll be just fine!

Cycling in general makes me feel chilly ... I've often headed out on hot days for a ride to cool myself down. So I will need more than arm and leg warmers and a gortex. I'll be decked out in a helmet cover, rain jacket, rain pants, neoprene booties, rain gloves, and balaclava .... as well as several layers of cycling clothing ...... and I've got a hooded vest, headband, and extra gloves in my bag.
