Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So...is there anyone out there doing this ride? I'll be there. I've got a bright red trek with blade aero spoke wheels.

That's a great event, really. Great views of Detroit and Canada, an occasional passing Great Lakes freighter, and a ton of riders. Great atmosphere.

It was my first real big event years ago (1984). I think I did 240 miles. Hurt for a week afterward. Loved it.

It's the only time that camping is allowed on Belle Isle. That alone is worth the trip.

Let me know how many riders are there this year, will ya?

well, its almost a week later. Sorry. There were about 400 rides there. I ended up riding 100 miles in 6.5 hours and that included my 30 minute lunch.

I was there. It was a beautiful day. I got in 110 miles in just under 7 hours. I thought the course was way better than the past few years. Did you really think there were 400 riders. My guess was closer to 200.

I spoke to a Wolverine who said they had just over 400.

In past years, they've had closer to 2000.

Still, it's a great place to ride.....sadly, with a police escort.
