Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

DFW Riders

My family and I will be traveling to Dallas this weekend to attend a graduation. So that means we will be brining all our bikes with us, five to be exact. I’m looking for a few good places to ride around Lake Highlands area and any quality bike shops I should stop by while we are in town. Any help would great.

You'd be remiss if you didn't go to Richardson Bike Mart - Richardson Store and Plano Cycling and Fitness

https://planocycling.com/index.cfm

https://bikemart.com/index.cfm

Bike Mart in Richardson for the sheer amount of bikes and gear.

Plano Cycling for the knowledge of the staff (they have no shortage of stuff either)

+1. Both are great shops. Both of these shops have group rides on Saturday mornings.

Ditto. There are many RBM rides to choose from, depending upon your level of fitness. If you don't want to join in a group ride, the ride around White Rock Lake is nice and easy for the whole family. There is also a paved hike/bike trail that leads north from WRL (25 miles round trip including the loop around the lake) and is a good option for an easy Saturday morning ride. RBM does have a shop in Lake Highlands right by White Rock Lake. Maybe only a few blocks away.

but if you're going to RBM you have to see the Richardson store.
The pantheon to Lance is impressive (note the signed coke machine as you
enter the store, the signed bike, jersey etc above the entrance, then check
the pics at the service dept, Lance as highschool geek. . .cool stuff.

The other RBM shops are good, don't get me wrong (I shop the frisco store)
but the Richardson one is the one to see.

+1 on white rock lake, it's crowded and the MUP is hazardous due to joggers, bladers
prams, dogs etc. Follow the cyclists on Lawther Ave. which circles the lake instead.

lotek's right. I should have clarified the ride around the lake should be done on the road, not the hika/bika trail. Parts of it are as smooth as Peanut Butter. If you take the H/B trail north early in the morning, you'll miss most of the people who are trying out their new roller blades and the people walking their dogs on 25 foot leashes.

LOL! Always interesting.

Speaking of White Rock, has anyone heard anything about the trail from Plano all the way down to the lake?
