Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cervelo R3 Dura-Ace setup

I purchased a Dura-Ace equipped R3. The bicycle came equipped with 3TTT 4GXL handlebars and a FSA stem. The Dura-Ace bikes should come with a FSA HB-250 handlebar. I've spoken with the owner of the bike shop where I got the bike, and he has agreed to change the handlebar over....however, he is claiming to me that the FSA bar is inferior to the 3TTT bar. I've no way to judge whether or not what he claims is true or not, so could anyone please give me your honest opinions? Should I just stay with the 3TTT, or go with the FSA. I'd really, really appreciate your honest input.

Bars are bars. Pick the one with which you feel better on.

pick the most expensive one..." if it costs more, it has to be better " , j/k...

Since the store owner is giving you a choice of either for free, go with the best fitting one.

I think the 3TTT is about ten grams heavier and is all black (no red) so does not match quite as well. Also, if you have an FSA stem, wouldn't an FSA bar look cooler? Having said that, nothing matters but the comfort. Chances are that each have slightly different bends in the drops and you should decide which will be better for your hands in the drops.

PS I still think you should have gotten the soloist carbon

I'm going to report you if you don't post a pic of that bike soon.

oh ya, i'd go wth the 3ttt bars cause fsa doesn't have any flat room next to the stem to mount aero bars or have a computer.

If you have the option, you should at try the 3TTT BioMorphe series. I did not have access to any 3TTT kit when I built my Soloist Carbon, so I went with a FSA K-wing, moved over from another bike. I then changed that to a ITM K-sword and then finally the BioMorphe XL. The 3TTT is something else, bit of an amalgam of what I liked from my previous bars. In general, I believe 3TTT makes quality gear, but a bit hard to find. Since you have a chance, try the BioMorphe. Otherwise, the rest of the advice given so far is sage, fit is truly personal.

Remember the fine print at the botom of the manufacturers bicycle specifications listing on the bike.
The fine print usually says "SPECIFICATIONS SUBJECT TO CHANGE". Could have been a delivery or availability problem from 3TTT at the time and after checking with Cervelo they were told to ship closely comparable product which was put on the bike for final assembly. In the perfect world we all wish and want there are always logistics issues. Could have been a problem with 3TTT getting the needed raw stock to bend the bar that was originally speced. Maybe they had a problem with the lighter bars holding up and changed. Those of us that have worked in shops and assembled bikes know that this happens from time to time. Years ago Cannondale was notorius for doing it.

As long as they are the right width, you have to decide like the reach, drop and tops. They are both decent bars.

I actually contacted Cervelo, and no substitutions were made.

The 3TTT bars are okay....functional, nothing special, nothing bad. Won't really know how the FSA bars would work until I had them put on the bike.

I guess the question is really: all things being equal, which bar is of better quality (disregarding price).
