How do you call your bike?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

As I was riding through the Mennonite section of town, I was considering calling mine the Amish HumVee! No not really! I know bad form!

I don't have names for mine, besides "Road Bike", and "Mountain Bike".

2Psychlknut. I used to live in Sarasota. If that Amish restaurant is still on Main street and their dessert have not changed- then a person would need to ride more.. Used to love that Amish restaurant. I was into running then?
Where is the Amish section of Sarasota. Been so long don't remember its' whereabouts? Maybe out towards the village of Fruitville?

My road bike is Gina because she thinks she's Italian (she's really from Taiwan, but I haven't told her yet).

My MTB was supposed to be Dolly or something vaguely Appalachian, but the name Hiedi stuck. I guess she named herself.

I haven't yet named my bike. I will, however, take suggestions.

When I saw the title of this thread, I wanted to reply "I just whistle and it comes."

Anyway, when I had one bike it was "my bike."

When I had two bikes they were "the rain bike" and "the good bike."

Lately I've started calling the rain bike -- a steel tourer with fenders and racks that's my primary commuter -- "the truck."

The good bike -- an Airborne ti light touring bike -- is "the Airborne."

The new bike -- a Fuji Roubaix Pro -- is "the new bike."

I have absolutely no imagination whatsoever.

I have never named a bike but somehow I see it as a "male object." So the question is:

In some languages the word for "the" changes depending on whether the object being identified is "masculine" or "feminine." Does anyone know which form of "the" is used in other languages to refer to a bike?

Sometimes I call my bike B***H. When my boss was touching my bike, it would always give me some type of b***hy attitude. Wasn't until after that it started behaving. This is my Concorde by the way, not my Colnago. I haven't made a name for the Colnago yet.

My wife helped me name my bikes - mostly because though I always seem to be talking about them it is not always obvious which one. It is very good of her to listen really
Anyway, I have two bikes in the UK: Diana, a Dawes and Penelope, a Peugeot framed Frankenbike*

... And two in the US, both of which were rescue projects that enable me to ride when we are stateside: Sophia, a Schwinn Traveller III, and Miranda, a Miata framed Frankenbike

*Frankenbike - a cycle constructed from an almost random collection of new and old parts...

Cheers,

Ed

I've talked about my bikes' nicknames in a couple of other threads. Right now I'm working, bit by bit,on a project bike. It used to be a ParkPre Comp Limited. I'm building it up as a single speed. All of the derailleurs and cables are gone. I stripped off the decals. (I was happy to see the ones that said "TI paint", "Designed in the USA", and "Made in Taiwan" go.) I'm still waiting to get some parts. When I'm all done, it will weigh like a pig, but should be quite stylie.

I have begun to call it "RegularBike."

Where is the Amish section of Sarasota.
It used to be on the outskirts, but due to growth, it now considered the "middle" of town. Located around Bahia Vista and Tuttle Avenue. Actually the majority is more Menonite (sp?) than Amish, but there is strong influence regardless. As far as the restaurants, there are about 4 now that serve incredible desserts and good stick to your ribs type cooking. Just thinking about their food is making me feel fat.

In spanish, the bicycle is referred to in the feminine: la bicicleta.

My bikes names are Lemond, Allez, and Wicked.

I know, not very original.

I do have a friend who named her Lemond- Greg. At least she is a little more creative then me.

SOOOOOOOOEEEEEEE SOOOOOEEEEEEE HERE BIKE HERE BIKE!!!

It never works....... The stupid thing just sits there until I walk over and get it.
