DFW Riders. HHH?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

DFW Riders. HHH?

During one of our stops over the weekend we discussed doing Hotter N' Hell
in Wichita Falls in August (delightful place, no really).

There are still alot of places to stay (and not in a sleeping bag
at the MPEC) outside of Wichita Falls that provide Spaghetti dinner
friday nite, and Big Breakfast on Saturday morning, and checkout
is late enough that you can shower after the ride before driving back
down here.

So Who's in?

Marty

I thinking about it. We're going to be about a month into our second child. Probably, go up that morning.

You talking metric century? I am good for one of those, if i can get time away from the family. Last HHH I did in the 90's had me peeing red! I either did not drink enough or those roads tore me up. Would be nice to get a group of riders together that agreed to ride together, not split up. I truly dislike getting 30 miles into a ride and it ending up being a solo for the second half.

Metric is fine with me, especially since I think it's really gonna be Hotter n Hell,
the ride has gotten away with low temps the past few years, we're due for a really
hot one.
At my age I'm not out to set any records (hell you've seen me ride and my pace)
I just want to finish, so I too would like to stay in a group.

I'll probably be up for the Metric. Though if this spring (I won't even call what December and Janurary was a Winter) has been any indication then Marty's right about the heat this year. We'll all be needing to spend a bit of time adjusting to riding in the heat before leaping into HHH. I don't want to be suffering any issues that jsharr so fondly remembers from his last trip.

On a side note of DFW rides that are coming up a lot sooner - who's doing the Collin Classic in a week and a half?

I am definitely wanting to do it this year. I'd be fine with the metric. I don't my first real century to be a scorcher.

Oh, and I may be up for the Collin County ride.

I should know by the middle of next week.

sounds great metric or full century.
it has been a couple of years since I rode the hotter-n-hell.
when I rode it in the past I would leave early in the morning around 2:00 A.M. maybe there could be a meeting place somewhere close to the event.

I'd probably work a half day or take the Friday prior off and drive up so an early early AM start would be fine with me if possible.

I drove up the night before and slept in the back of the suv in the past. I could do that again, or hotel sounds nice as well. I hope ya'll realize that by making this a planned DFW BF ride that we are guaranteeing to increase temperature and wind speed both! Either that or it will rain cats and dogs.
