Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

National 24 Hour Challenge

The National 24 Hour Challenge is coming up on June 17th, who is going?
How many miles are you going for this year?

I am going again this year after getting hurt there last year. My minimum goal is 288 miles and my primary goal is to break 300 miles. Last year I tore a ligament and dropped at 71 miles so this year I have a shot at the "most improved" award.

If enough BFers are going it would be cool to have an informal get together!

I wish I could but I can't afford the time off. However, I'm going to the UMCA 24-hour in September!

I'm in. If we get good weather like last year, and if I can fully get over the skiing injury I just suffered on Sunday (yes, skiing on Memorial Day weekend!), I'll be gunning for 450 miles. Perhaps a bit ambitious, but a man's got to have goals!

I know that there will be quite a few people going to the National 24-hour, and I know there will likely be about 50-ish people at the UMCA 24-hour, and there are several other 24-hour events around the US ...... so I have to wonder ....... we three can't be the only 24-hour riders on this forum, can we? Surely there are other long distance racers out there!

BTW - I have links to all the 24-hour events I could find here on the Links page of my site:

https://www.machka.net/links.htm

If you know of any I've missed ... let me know.

I don't know, but I plan on going to Iowa in September also. July is the Saratoga 12 hour in New York, August is the 12 in Massachusetts and October is the Tejas 500. All of my vacation time goes for the races...
