Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My new ride - finally

After a bad crash, 2 broken wrists, a broken frame, a broken brifter (but repaired because it was Campy) a long winter, a very busy spring, a simple mistake by the bike shop, and a lost UPS package, I finally have my new bike all ready to go and ride. I put it together myself and was surprised by how easy it was. I took it out for a few rides and it only needed the handlebars lined up, nothing else needed adjustment. And let me tell you, this bike is a rocket. I can only imagine what this will feel like with lighter wheels. It's 17 pounds as it is right now.

Considering that the bike I crashed was a Kuota Kharma I'm really surprised by how much better this one feels. Maybe I'm just excited about riding again.

Now if it will only stop raining this weekend I'll get to put some more miles on it.

First of all, kudos to you for sticking with the sport after the crash, broken bones and all of the other problems. Many would drop out after all of that.

Wow, great bike. I love the black color. Can you post the specs?

Good luck as your drop all of your friends!

Steve

Spec:

Kuota Kredo small size, w Fork and integrated headset
Campy Chorus FD, RD, Brakes, Brifters, Record Ultra Narrow chain
Campy 13/26 cassette
Kuota Seatpost
Deda Newton bar
Deda Magic Stem
FSA MegaExo SLK compact crank 36/50
Campy Vento wheels and skewers (The heaviest part on the bike)
Selle Italia C2 gel saddle
Look Keo CrMo pedals

As it is 17 pounds. If I get light wheels, ~1400 to 1500g, I'll lose over a pound, almost a pound and a half with skewers. It wasn't my intention to build a weight weenie bike, but I'm so close to getting under 16lbs I'll go for it.

Super bike! A real looker. If the weather clears take a couple of pics outside in the sunlight.

Nice bike - are you looking to sell or trade the wheels?

I'm not getting new wheels until later in the summer, I've already spent enough. In any case though I'll be keeping the Ventos as street wheels. In NYC you need something tough. Almost every ride I do starts on the streets of Brooklyn, and a lot go through Manhattan to get to New Jersey or other points north.

With any luck at all though I'll get to ride in Washington/Oregon this summer. And next year I'd like to try STP again.
