Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Scare on the highway

I was riding on the highway (in the breakdown/bike lane) on a slight downhill at about 40 kph, when I hit a rock with both wheels. My bike suddenly lurched to the left, toward traffic, and the impact knocked my left hand off the handlebar. The impact instantly blew BOTH my tires. In my opinion, it was nothing short of a miricle that I was able to stay on that bike, and out of the traffic lane. Be carefull out there, because even a rock on the shoulder of the road could end it all.

If you lived in Los Angeles, you'd have to add that a car honked at you while you were hurling towards the traffic lane out of control. Glad you're still alive.
