What's the best type of chain lube for sandy areas?

Many of us here use T-9, Tri-Flow, or Rock 'n' Roll. I am in a catch-22 with chain lube as blowing sand sticks to most wet lubes, but dry wax lubes wash off in our frequent rain storms I get caught in. I just clean the chain about once a week.

I live in Huntington Beach, CA and ride in the mornings either along Pacific Coast Hiway or right on the beach path. For me, I use the light and dry oil, either CRC or LPS. Either one you can get from an industrial supply store like W.W. Grainger and the LPS you can get from a Marine supply store.

Trouble is I have to apply every 100 miles. But it keeps it clean and quiet. Expensive way but it works.

-Rock N Roll Extreme

Use the Tri-Flow. While OB doesn't have the same weather as Beaufort/Hilton Head, you'll still have to deal with wet conditions, especially when you ride on the beach. The Ice Wax would wash off too quickly. The Rock N Roll is too expensive to use for the beach. Also consider if you're staying at a resort and you keep the bike outside: sprinklers. The resort I work at runs lawn irragation all night, and all the bike racks and bikes get soaked every night.

Most chain lubes attract sand and cause it to stick to the chain. Which ever lube you decide to use (I prefer the wax type chain lubes) clean off the excess lube after applying it. Run the chain through a rag until no more lube comes off. Then let the chain dry for eight hours or so. Then run the chain through the rag again for several minutes. The cleaner and drier the outside surfaces of the chain are, the less sand you will pick up. And, the cleaner and drier your cogs and chain wheels are,the less sand they will pick up.

I just started riding the MTB (with the dog running beside) along the Lake Michigan shoreline and sometimes into the surf due to stretches where there's no beach. I kinda figured a wax lube (Pedro's Ice) would be the way to go. I'm mostly a roadie but the moose loves the beach and it's a fun way to wear him out. Wondering if anything better has come along in the last 3+ years.

I use a wax lube and clean it with Simple Green every 100 miles or so. More if I ride through wet sand.

For beaches I like to use a lube I like to call, "GTFO of the beach".

T-9 hands down. I live on the coast and there's always sand somewhere along the bike path, but none ever sticks with T-9
