Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Upgrades

Not that anyone cares, but I just made some decent upgrades to my Pilot 5.2 and bought a great new pair of road shoes. I put on a new pair of 700x23c Michellin Pro Race tires, and replaced my Look A3 pedals with Look KEO Carbon pedals w/chromoly spindles. I also replaced my old Diadora road shoes with a pair of Specialized Carbon Pro shoes. It may seem like minor upgrades, but it set me back about $500.

worthless without pics.

If you ever noticed even something as trivial as new tires can become a very hopping thread when there are pictures and a review.

How do you like the new look keo carbon pedals compared to the old delta cleat? notice much difference?

Love them! The biggest difference I notice is the weight reduction between my old A3 pedals and the new Carbons. I also went with the gray, 4.5 deg float cleats instead of the red Delta cleats I used on the A3's. There was too much wasted motion in the red cleats. An even bigger difference is in the shoes. The Specialized Carbon Pro shoes I bought are much stiffer and better fitting than the Diadoras that I was using. The combination of new pedals and shoes results in a noticable increase in power transfer, especially when climbing or sprinting out of the saddle......Bottom line, I'm very impressed with both the pedals and shoes.........I'll try to post a pic or two in the next couple of days.

Shoes and probably pedals will be my end of year upgrades for myself. I"ve heard nothing but good things about the Specialized shoes. Owner of my LBS just swtiched over to them and was raving about them a few months back.

Nice upgrades. I wanted to point out that I love when manufacturers throw out "chromoly" as a marketing name for a basic steel alloy. Makes it sound like it's super lightweight unobtanium. No. Not really. It's steel.

I've also put an order in for a new Bontrager Race X Plus carbon fork to replace the Sattelite Plus carbon fork currently on the bike. It'll be about 30 grams lighter and have less rake for more responsive handling.
