any non racer leg shavers out there **********?
i plan to race next year , maybe a few this year. anyone shave that dosent race or plans to race someday . i havent shaved yet yet my wife keeps saying she knows ill do it sometime. to me it just seems like shaved legs really seems to be a dividing line between riders and how committed they are to the sport. any thoughts on this?

Shave them if you want to, don't shave them if you don't. I know great riders and racers who shave and non-shave alike.

Shaved back yesteryear when I raced 50+/ season - still shave now and I hardly race anymore, and I'll be hairless for many, many years to come.
Do whatever you want.
Elitist tip - if you do shave - you may want to work on having low bodyfat, defined legs & some scars (which will come when you race a lot - or MTB a lot) - otherwise it looks like one has chick legs (aka triathlete legs)

I have seen a number of male cyclists with shaved legs that were not racers. That is West Hollywood for you.

If there's such thing as "recreational racer," that's me. Only 4 races in my area in a given year, 5 if you count the hill climb I guess. Shaved starting this year as soon as I got out of long tights. Only started road riding last year.

I have never race and never will. I shave my legs and chest in the summer. I just like to do it, and I don't wear kit that otherwise makes me look like a wannabe.
I bike for fitness and for the outdoors, not to compete...it's just my personality.

I ride a decent amount, but I don't shave. If someone wants to call me undedicated b/c my legs are hairy, then that speaks to that person's intelligence, or lack thereof.

I only race other cyclists on my commute.
Normal racing does not appeal to me. Just not competitive in that way.
I shave for the following reasons:
1) Scarred muscular legs look awesome. AKA vanity
2) Easier to apply sunscreen.
3) I like it.
4) I am a klutz and tend to scrape myself up once a month or so. Easier to clean.

I have the luck to have very little hairy legs, so the problem doesn't apply to me but I would definetly never shave for any reason.

For those of us who shave and don't race on a regular schedule (that's me) - we're kidding ourselves if we deny that Vanity/Appearance is the number 1 reason...well above: Easier to massage muscles, less issues IF we crash and have to deal with road rash, etc.
My reasons really come down to:
- Can't STAND the way hairy legs look in lycra-clad outfits; Geez, we look like dorks enough as it is (at least to non-cyclists), hairy legs and lycra makes you look like Eugene Levy from Club Paradise ;-)
- Love the way my muscles stand out when not hidden by hair (again, Vanity)
- I feel more committed to the sport when shaving my legs; am I a Cat 1/2 racer?...No, and never will be. But by shaving, I feel somewhat more connected to something I love.

I dont race either, and screw all that "I shave because if I crash, I want to be able to clean the wound easier"
Thats all BS
My legs look good, smooth, clean and thats why I shave. Honestly, if I quit riding, Ill still shave, takes 3 minutes in the shower.
go get ya raxor and hit the showers!

3 minutes in the shower? Please share your secret.
This thread was about legs shaving and you didn't expect pics?
It takes all kinds.
(BTW, it's not sunburned, it's just a crappy flash shot.)

I shave, and I don't really care what anybody else thinks of it.
