Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My Mike Garcia (w/PowerTap SL) Wheels are here!

My Mike Garcia Speedcific wheels are here! With the Michelin Carbons I got on sale at Performance, they are MUCH lighter than my previous wheels (Mavic CXP33s with Armadillos) even with the addition of a PowerTap SL hub and a larger cassette. They look pretty sweet, IMO, as well.

Front wheel without rimtape was just a tad over 600 grams, the rear wheel with the PowerTap SL hub was 1010 grams. Weight doesn't matter all that much to me but these are really light wheels and pretty aero too.

What is the seconfd pick-up on the chainstay? I've only got one with my SL. Nice wheels ... got me thinking of putting my SL on a lighter rim.

one is probably the PT cadence and the other looks like the cadence sensor for another computer.

Not bad weights either i often wondered if mike would do this with the PT hub. Did you buy it on your own or was he able to provide the hub a fairly reasonable price? Weight sounds about right, my rear bontrager x-lite aero wheel is 1080 with my PT hub or there abouts... front wheels is 780 so your set is still lighter, and probably cheaper. But i got mine onsale bundled with a bike i bought at the LBS...

Anyways congrats and welcome to the world of power if this is your first PT wheelset.

Second pickup is for the Garmin 305. I'm not sure I need it anymore but I kept both on for the time being. I sure wish the PowerTap were wireless like the Garmin. I'm not very happy with the way I've run the wires back to the PT head unit.

I bought the PT SL on eBay for a pretty good price ($850 new in the box) and sent it to Mike. He actually charged me slightly less than a regular Speedplay Niobium 30 wheelset because I provided my own hub.

I had a good experience with Mike--but a lot of that had to do with the forum level-setting my expectations about how long it takes him to turn a wheelset around. If you're in a hurry he's maybe not the best to work with. If you have time and want something custom, he's fabulous.
