Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have a couple of Mitchell spinning reels from around the 30's or 40's. Heired to me by late great Uncle who was a hardcore angler. Absolutely mint condition. Were they considered any good?

Shimano does have some pretty lame names for products... I think Ultegra is probably the best product name they've come up with in a while. I was looking at the fishing reels just for laughs and found the "Moocher" series...

Imagine the Liggetisms at the TdF--"Yes, Paul, it would seem that the whole of the peloton has switched to Moocher for this tour."

I guess Dura-Ace, while a lame name, is a little better than Moocher.

I have a couple of old Mitchell reels that my Dad used. I think they are excellent reels and they have kept up with Shimano as far as I can tell. I used to fish all of the time and Shimano was my reel of choice.

It's amazing what people will argue about on the internet! I fish inland saltwater for specks, reds, and flounder. What the hell am I going to do with a big game reel?? Fin-nor makes GREAT big water reels and a fine spinning reel but those are for women and kids. The chronarch sf and curado sf and regular (old green ones) are the best damn reels I've used so far. Coupled with a waterloo (custom tied loomis blank) or sidewinder custom rod, they're about as perfect as you can find. I've been through a few penns and still have plenty of abus around but the shimanos are sweet and the price is right. Mine see a lot of rough use and hold up great...just like my ultegra groupset

Hey Rad.

Some of that old stuff in really good condition can be worth some good $$. Wish I knew where to send you to find out tho.
