Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2 years ago today.....

sergeant pepper taught the band to play... NO... wrong song!

2 years ago today i went on my first road bike ride.... having bought my brand new dolce on the 27th but not getting home til it was too dark to ride..... i had to suffer all day at work waiting to ride my new baby!

in the first year (jun 28, 2004 - jun 27, 2005) i rode 6648.30 miles...

my second year (jun 28, 2005 - jun 27, 2006) i had a grand total of 7555.95 miles!

that's a grand total of 14204.25 miles in 2 years/24 months!

i've done a ton of organized rides.... including centuries.... (as well as the king of the mountains rides this year!)...... several organized metric centuries... and several organized double metrics!

ok..... self-serving ride birthday post over!

where's my cake and ice cream**********?

Congrats.

I too mark an anniversary today.

2002 on this day, June 28th, I had "The Big One"......
Broken wrist....front tooth gone....you can only imagine the road rash....but the hip replacement made it through the entire face-plant, endo just fine.

Can I get cake too?
A toast tonight to Caligirl

Damn... I feel so inadequate now. I think my first year, I rode a total of like 300mi... of course, I don't have the luxury of riding 12 months out of the year... of course, even if i did, that probably would've only made it 305 miles in my first year.

I'll be right back, I'm going to go ride my bike some more...

Since 1982, I stopped counting at 10. I know have 4. I'm riding my 25 year old bike a lot more these days too. I'm feeling nostalgic...and it looks cool when a 25 year old bike passes guys on hills "huh, what with those cables over the handlebars...and he's passing me!". And those shifters...they are on the downtube...wtf?!

Radar shows some rain action just above you. It's hot and muggy here in the SF Valley. I have a ride planned around 5 pm. Thunder clouds are still somewhat east of us.

Congrats on your achievement! You sure have covered a lot of miles in a short time. Keep up the great work! Vicki and I will look for you at Three Harbors in a week.

Congratulations Caligurl!

Let's see - June 28th.....

Oh yes...June 28th, 1992 - the day of the Big Bear/Landers earthquakes in Southern California. And more importantly to me - the day my father passed away.

I think I celebrate Caligurls anniversary - it's a lot more fun.

You most definitely put in far more mileage than I do.

Sorry to hear.....as all things come to an end, there are always new beginnings.

FWIW, my grandmother died on my birtday back in 2000. How ironic is that.....

Congrats Cali....those are some impressive numbers!

Congrats! I ride far less than you do but I'd like to ride more. I've only managed to ride 2000 miles since last August...My wife is a realtor and we have a 4 year old son so it's sometimes difficult finding enough time to ride. Sounds like I'm making excuses now doesn't it?

At the rate I'm riding now I'll probably do about 3500 miles next year.
