Opinions on Scott Speedster S1
Hey guys...I usually frequent the fixed gear forum..but have been wanting to get a roadbike aswell for those longer rides.
I had been thinking in the realms of: Trek 1200, Lemond Reno..etc...(these being sold at bike shops around town)
but my LBS (the ones who I trust, and who do any work I may need) does not stock anything at that level...they do have a 05 scott Speedster S1..retails(and the sticker reads) 1799.99 but after talkign for a while, and him knowing that I bought my Bianchi there, and use them as "my" shop...well he said he could do it for 1200 for me.
What are your thoughs? Is 1200 too much for a first roadbike? is it a good deal?(Ultegra, very light aluminum frame, carbon fork)
my thoughts: 1200 seems pretty good for all those compents...compared to the others mentioned, its alot better, and for around 400 more...that 400 which I might have ended up using to upgrade the others...?
No, $1200 is not too much, IMO, esp since youve been riding fixie for some time, so you arent really a noob to cycling. Scott makes great bikes, and Ultegra is an extremely excellent group.

If it's your size and you like it buy it.
"I didn't see him/her" is a confession, not an excuse.
I really want to, its the Financial side thats holding me back. He did mention layaway..so maybe i can get in there, throw down a few hundred to have it held then when I sell the volvo thats in my drieway, get the bike. I should probably do that soon...going to maine in the middle of next week...and its the only one, and its in my size-that way if I want it, its mine, if for some reason #i decide i dont, im sure hed be cool with that.
He let me take it out for a day(not just the normal 20 min ride) and I rode with one of my fixed gear friends...I didnt realize how FAST you can go on these...the last geared bike I rode was a Giant Cypress flatbar comfort bike from a few years ago.
I just have to get used ot the "1200 for a bike?!?!" feeling
Damn thats a nice bike!
Scott makes killer bikes.
how are shimano wheelsets? will they work fne for me? If i put down 1200, I dont want to have to replace alot quickly
heres my quick conculsion...
I still need to test out the reno(a local shop is building one upfor me to test tis week) If I am very hapy with the rde of the reno, I might go for that, and save the $$. If im still longing for the scott...the scott it is....
It is fantastic.
The S1 for $1200? Great price.
Pretty popular around here. Seems to be a really good bike for the money. The biggest issue is the lack of a replaceable derailleur hanger. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't bend so easily but it does. How much extra weight/cost would one of those have added?
