Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Forkless (snaping forks)

I was out recently on my road bike when i had a stack and came off my bike. I have a full carbon frame and forks with carbon steerer. I completly snaped the forks off at the crown and have a couple of scratches down my down tube. The accident happen on flat road, my chain slipped when going to crank and throw me off balance and onto the road were i think my forks collected the safety barries pole and snaped (i think, all happened very quick). I was wondering if any body knew much about carbon and frames etc and what other problem i might have with my frame that i may not be able to see (ie internal cracks) that might write off the frame or determine if its ok? How would i know if my frame is ok and can just replace my forks? Also, can carbon fiber unweave if there are chips out of it ie like my down tube and how can i fix the chips (fill in with resin?)?

Cheers

Take it back to the shop you bought it. Get them to check it out.

Yes, get the bike shop to check it out.

The "weave" you see is just cosmtic. The actual strength bearing CF is under that, and is far uglier.

CF is one of those materials that is hard for a consumer to verify if it's good or not....the bike shop might have to send it to the manufacturer to verify that it is still usable.
