Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

"I Crashed" Threads

Is it just me, or am I'm the only one who has ABSOULTELY ZERO INTEREST in seeing Road Rash porn.

If you crashed because someone took you out - I'm sorry to hear it.

If you crashed because something broke on your bike - well, should have maintained better, eh?

If you crashed because you were descending down a sidewalk - serves you right.

Now, please, do me a favor, no do us all a favor, and set up a separate section/forum for the 'I crashed' threads.

whinge over.

have a nice day.

ride safe

I'm with you. I refuse to click on any of those threads because I don't want to freak myself out. Every other thread on this forum motivates me to go out there and ride and get healthier. Not those. No thanks.

You can say that you've got zero interest in road rash porn, but it sounds like you've viewed some of the BF road porn -- as have many of us.

I started an "I crashed" thread a few months ago. At the time, I think I did it because I thought there'd be some fellow BF'ers who would like to gawk at my asphalt induced swelling and gouges. Another motive was to show my cracked helmet and give thanks that it wasn't any worse and to remind others what to watch out for (in my case it was a patch of sand).

In retrospect, I'm kinda w/ urbanknight and am starting to feel that clicking on the crash threads may be bad karma, or plain bad luck. Yeah, I will probably wipe out again, but thinking about it (or seeing too much of it via BF threads), will probably just freak me out in the meantime.

Not to lessen the pain of anyone's crash, but I will most likely stay away from the crash threads as well -- unless I know you, then I'll probably wish you a speedy recovery.

And +1 to riding safe.

Off the top of my head, I've only seen Vipers pics, when he snuck them into the 'helmet/cycling cap' thread a few days ago.

All I have to do is spot the paperclip next to 'I crashed' in the subject to know what I'll find.

ha ha ha -- yes, usually the paperclip and "crashed" in the thread title is a dead giveaway.

My crash thread doesn't have any paperclips ( https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycling/189537-my-head-vs-pavement-w-pics.html ).

I've watched too many horror movies for that to effect me..... and seen too many Pro crashes...

But IF you are going to make a crash thread put a warning on it for graphic pictures. That way for people who do NOT want to see oozing puss they can avoid it.

Personaly, I like throwing in a good picture of a pro that wasn't wearing a helmt or gloves to show noobs and over confident air heads that cycling is unpredictable and no one knows when it will be there turn to hit a corner to fast or find a nice patch of gravel.

Look away, with so many threads on the board, nobody is forcing you to click on it. There is lots of other threads that annoy many others, yet most people seem to be fine.

That said, sorry I subjected you to it. I'll remove it.

I don't look at them.

call me superstitious, but i don't care, nor do i even want to know that every other newbie on a bike manages to hit the deck.

It's not just newbies, I'm a seasonsed rider for more years than I care to state

So people should stop posting about Flat tires as well? I'm kinda superstitious about that. Uh-oh, now that I mentioned it, I'm doomed..

Since I just posted a crash thread and possibly my thread precipitated your outcry...I voted they are a reminder to ride safe....nothing more. Do I savor them...no. I virtually never crash...so when I do it is a big deal. If any of the regulars on here crash...I read it. Why? Becase I care about what happened to them and know if they crash, it could have easily been me. I try to learn from others...which in large measure is what this forum is all about.

I only posted a thread about the first time I crashed....it was a rite of passage so to speak....I managed to go 6 years before it happened. I did not include pics.
