Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Does this klein frame look like a fake?

I saw this frame on Ebay and was suspect of it being a fake. The welds on the seat tube do not look like typical klein welds. It does not appear that the head tube is flared at the ends for the headset. What do you Klein owners think? Is it real or a fake?

My God you can't see it for the bubble wrap. Who would know! They are hiding something or they would have photo'd w/out the wrap.

Yup, that's Klein bubble wrap, alright. I could spot their bubble wrap from a mile away!

Those welds at the seat tube/rear triangle look surprisingly crappy and bubbly for a Klein frame of that level. Not saying that it isn't legit... i'm just very surprised. I've never seen an upper-level AL Klein frame with visible welds of any kind - they're normally so smooth that the frame looks like it's painted carbon. Maybe the quality of the workmanship has changed within the past year or two.

Looks real to me. Headbadge and paint look correct, rear dropouts look to be the Klein style rear entry design, and the downtube looks to have the appropriate shaping. No guarentees, but with good feedback I wouldn't be too concnerned.

looks the same to me, compare the lighting--there's a glare on the eBay photo that exaggerates the welds

That qualifies for the ebay worst picture hall of fame. Even worse than the ones run thru Photoshop to screw them up.

I dunno, while the geometry and fading paint looks right, that weld just looks fishy. I have an '05 Rêve V, which is their cheapest road bike, and the welds are smooth as butter. There's no way their '06 bikes can be so much worse, especially a Q-Pro. I also can't see the name Klein on the frame either. Maybe it is a legit frame, but it's been repaired/repainted? I'd definitely get the guy to unwrap the thing and take some good photos.

None of the welds on my Klein mountain bike look like that. If it is a Klein and that is a big IF, then it is a actory reject or something they used to train people how not to weld a Klein frame.

+1 on the bubble wrap comments.

Ask the guy to take another picture of the bike outside of the bubble wrap. It sure looks like a Klein but with the wrap on it you can't tell.
