A Fresh Start
I realized something on my ride last night...I am not a cycling stud and that's OK.
I ride at 16 - 17 mph average and I'm not getting faster
I hear "on your left" more than I say "on your left"
I no longer feel like a failure when I come back from my ride and I wasn't as fast as the previous ride or as far
My dream of riding a true century may just have to stay a dream
It really isn't worth it to push faster and farther when the pain in my knees is telling me to stop
I need to remember the joy of the sounds of the tires on the pavement, the crank turning over in a nice smooth cadence. The scenery on the ride. It is no longer going to be about the speed and the distance for me.
When I come home at the end of the ride my wife and daughters ask "How was your ride?" not how far and how fast did you go. That's the part I forgot about.
Enjoy the ride, whether you're a stud or a recreational cyclist like me!
