Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bicycle Storage

Now that the family has three bikes plus a Trek "Go Bug" I need something to get the bikes isolated into one area. I wanted to go the cheap route and hang them from the ceiling with hooks but the wife isn't to keen on me drilling into the ceiling. So with that out the window ...what racks etc. do you guys/gals use? I need something that holds at least 3 bikes and preferebly four since my 3 1/2 yr. old will be getting her first bike soon.

TIA

Cyclepods!
Actually, I don't know if you can buy them but I heard about them and thought that they were pretty cool. They come in 2 sections so you can have half a pod.

I got one of these to fit in a small corner of my garage and it works very well. It's recommended to anchor it agianst a wall for stability though.

Check out this link...but don't expect the kid's bike to fit on this rack, the top tube is not long enough.

I have a homemade rack made out of PVC pipe. Granted I only need to hold one bike, but there are instructions for PVC racks that hold more bikes like this one here that holds 3-4 bikes.

Why not? It's the cheapest way to go. If she's worried about leaving holes in the ceiling should you move, just let her know that spackle is even cheaper than bike hooks.

I hang them from a rail in my garage. Just throw the nose of the saddle over it. Let it hang.

No bikes allowed in the house. They're toys, not art.

Yes, good point.
I didn't in any way mean to exclude apartment-ites.

Those hooks are the nicest I have seen yet, but the mirrors make you more than just a spokesperson for OCP!!!

Getting married next month and we're moving into an apartment. I agreed to only bring one bike since I don't ride the others, but I demand at least storing it on our balcony until I see how safe the parking garage storage is. I actually think the work stand would make a nice storage stand in the living room! Taking my bike in the elevator or down 2 flights of stairs might hasten my decision though.

As for the OP, remind your spouse how easy it is to fill in holes. If still no, there are plenty of stands like the ones pictured above. Not sure where they all come from, but I've seen wood, metal, and plastic ones.

everyone always comments about the mirrors! lol! they are there cuz i also work out in the garage.... i just have to position myself "next" to a mirror to get a side view to make sure i'm using proper form for squats, lunges, etc! they really do serve a purpose! (well... and i'm OCP, too!)

Very Cool!!!!

Now all I need to do is get my garage attached to the house and hvac added. until then 3 bikes in the basement and main one in spare bedroom or bike room as the family calls it.. but it's on the 2nd floor and it's a pain not hitting walls going up and down.. Usually the bike stays in the living room unless we are are having company..

Built an attached bike shed in my summer home.. well planned it, but 65% of it became the laundry room with spare freezer.. what's left fits the rest of the families bikes, with room for 2 of my bikes on one wall.. I have been relegated to the basement...
