Unsticky the "Standard Answers" thread.
So it was a good idea at the start. But it's really not very useful to new members at all; Instead, it's rather confusing, and marred by off-topic posts and a general lack of.. well, order. I can't remember the last time that thread ever helped me or anyone in a substantial way.
Let's unsticky it. We can come up with something better. Discuss.

I had recommended it to the mods once, along with unsticky-ing some obsolete threads. The obsolete ones went, but at the time, the decision was made to keep "standard answers". Personally, I still think it has outlived its usefulness (not sure whether it ever was useful... haven't waded through very many of the posts) and it should be unstickied. Having a bunch of random posts in response to a bunch of questions (asked or assumed) isn't conducive to convenient searching or coherent discussion.

I think the idea was pertinent, but the newbies would be better served by a twenty-question FAQ. The answers might have some links to other threads (specifically the under $700 thread).

I agree. I think we should just create a cycling Wikipedia. Have several topics and subtopics like bike fitting and link in relevant articles. Even have a cycling dictionary: Shill - person that posts a seemingly innocent question about Motobecane bicycles and has question answered by other shills.

I agree that a wiki would be far more useful than the current sticky system. It would be cool to have a series like "buying a used bike", etc.

Yeah, I say do away with it also. There are too many smart-azzed remarks and inside jokes to be useful to any cycling newbie.
