Mt. Washington's mean wind speed is a gale-force 35.3 MPH, with hurricane-force winds occurring every third day (on average).
There is an annual ride up the thing, August 19 this year. It's full at 600 riders. One of the mags covered lst years race.

I recall Bicycling did a two page spread with pics of about a dozen finishers from the 2005 race. Averages were like 5 to 7 mph. Only name I can remember was Ned Overend, who did a remarkable time. That Ned is still a monster.

Crissy Field, San Francisco. 18-22 mph average with gusts to high 20's. Dead headwind on my commute home -- and, of course, the windiest part of the day.

Keep on climbing
I've only been there once, but anywhere in Wyoming has to rank up there amoungst the windiest spots in the country. It seemed like every morning sometime around 9:30 God would turn on the fan and we'd get blasted. During the evening it would die down, only to start right back up the next morning.
Mt. Washington, New Hampshire has recorded the highest surface wind velocity ever. They got something in the neighborhood of 230mph one day. They have two wind-speed recorders on the summit; one is for the "normal" days (i.e., winds under 150mph), the other is for the "windy" days (winds over 150mph).
That place is ridiculous. Most days it blows around 30mph.

Longing for a Tail Wind
So many factors on wind, anywhere that is flat and relatively treeless (Great Plains) can feel windier than places that have more shelterbreaks and windbreaks. This is a link from NOAA https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/...d/avgwind.html that lists average wind speeds in various places. Pretty similar across the board nationally, Mt. Washington sticks out though, and Hawaii surprised me.
The windiest place I have lived is in southwest MN, they have a large windmill farm there which requires relatively constant winds, and I can assure you that everyday all year long is just windy, 15-20 mph.
I noticed that the NWS website would list 15-20 mph wind days as windy in VA, but now that I live in NE, they don't call that windy, they call it breezy, and it gets windy (according to them) at about 25-30 mph. All perspective I guess.

Kansas was pretty bad in the winter. I don't have any numbers, and I'm sure there are places worse, but MY GOD!!
