Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Oakley Zero

Hey all, curious if any of you wear these glasses -- if so, can you provide any feedback as to their quality and fit? They seem extremely hard to find locally in stores, probably because they're so wacky looking, so I'll probably be buying them online sight-unseen.

Thanks!

I just bought a pair about a week ago. I love that there is no upper and lower frame... the visibility at any vertical head angle is great. Yes they look a little wacky at first but you get used to them very quickly. They look just fine when you are wearing a helmet.

Overall the fit and finish is very good. My Zero's fit fine when I'm not wearing my helmet but for some reason as soon as my helmet goes on they are just a tad looser. They stay on just fine for my entire rides but they don't have that snug head hugging feeling that my other Oakley's have. Maybe it's the lack of a full frame... They do sit nice and close to your face and are very light.

Only learning curve for me was to learn to push them on using the plastic around the nose area. I'm used to pushing my glasses using the top frame but this will just result in fingerprints on the Zero's. Got used to this fairly quickly though.

For reference I got mine at the LBS close to my house on sale for $135 CDN. I got the Persimmon G30 lens and it is especially good for early and late rides as well as for overcast days.

Hey! I'm in Toronto too! Which store was it that you bought them from?

Just be careful with flexing the glasses or wearing them on top of your head.... Because the lens does not have a frame to bear the load, the repeated flex stress will eventually put minute vertical stress cracks in the lens area, particularly in the nose bridge area. These cracks are internal and do not seem to affect the wearability of the glasses, they just compromise the clarity of the optics.

I had 2 pairs of Zeros, 1st and 2nd gens and this happened to both pairs after about a year of use. Oakley replaced both pairs with the $29 out of warranty option.

Other than that enjoy, they are cool looking

I bought them from Northern Cycle in Ajax. They were running a TdF special on apparel and sunglasses. The special ended yesterday though so I think the glasses are back up to regular price (~ $169).

Ah! Sucks! Thanks for the update! Hmmm, Ajax is pretty far from me anyways. Maybe I'll be able to find them someplace else.
