Oregon Roadies: Summit to Surf?
Who's doing it? I know its a little spendy, but its a great cause, and a nice route provided its not 100 degrees. That said, I am starting by 6:30 and hoping to get done as fast as possible.

I've got the fiancee as ready as she's going to be for the 48 mile leg. We climbed the last 1200 feet or so of Larch (snow gate to the viewpoint) Sunday morning before the heat fully arrived as a last drill.
You doing the full 100 miler?

I think I am in, feeling lethargic these days, my "fast as possible" may be a little slow for this one.

Depends on time and temp. If not the full 100, I may just do the 75. Timberline is the real goal... I could care less about riding out to rowena.

I did it last year and it was great. I was fortunate enough to ride for Subaru Western Region. I won't be able to attend this year because I'll be Hawaii at a wedding. Trust me, I would much rather be riding. Good luck to all that attend and it's for a great cause. I know that my diabetic friends appreciate it.

Rode the Fire and Ice route (100 miles) last year. Great ride if weather is nice. There are lots of gradual hills but I found the STP one day ride harder. Next time I would skip the Rowenta tunnels since I hate following the same route.
The free burgerville hamburger really hit the spot at the finish.

Yeah I have done the 100 before... and that trip out to rowena is nothing special, though that climb back up to the lookout is pretty good. If I end up solo, I'll probably just skip it and go right into hood river...but it seems like a waste to pay $90 and drive 1.5 hours just to ride like 70.

Please don't think little of me (no pun intended, I'm 5'3") but I did the 46-miler. It wasn't too bad. Going over Bennett Pass on a Zipp2001 isn't recommended though. Hahaha! Wish I could be there with y'all! Have fun and have a safe ride.

Jakey, did you preregister? Is it too late to get signed up for the shuttle from Hood River back to Welches? Is there a link for this ride?

I would but the LiveStrong ride and 6800 feet of climbing is the next day. It had originally be slated for Sept and I was going to do the S2S. But doing both would be a wicked 2 days so I am hanging out to help the PORTLAND VELO with their first century at the rider registration booth. I did the Summit to surf thing last year and that was the greatest down hill after the Fire and Ice climb. I am not going to miss it again next year no way.

This will be my first try at getting to Timberline. After surviving 142 miles of the Cycle Oregon weekend ride with 100+ degree weather last weekend, I figure this has to be cooler! My main concern is the opening climb from the start to Timberline. I really want to get to the top. Hope everyone has a safe ride.

Take the first 12 miles or so really easy... just ride a nice comfortable pace. The timberline climb isn't terrible, but its not easy. Eat alot at the top though, cause Bennet pass which is the next climb is brutal if you aren't expecting it.

Bike is fine, messed up the bar wrap just a little... my knee hurts but isn't scraped up too bad, and my wrist is a little sore. Nothing major...it sucks crashing on tracks though...thats like the biggest rule in cycling...

I also just confirmed that they will be transporting bags from the start to the finish... so we can bring different clothes and stuff. I *BELIEVE* there are showers available at the finish as well...but don't count on it.
