    Okay that's going to be sweet. I'm looking forward to this even more than the Tuscany. This should be a great build thread. I think we've all hd the urge to do our own 'Italian Job". Now you'll have to deal with us hounding you for more pics every day

    Thanks Man! It will be tough to produce pictures everyday, as the parts flow will be slower than Project Tuscany, and I'm going on holidays this morning .....

    My 1993 Record cranks were not engraved, upon closer inspection last night.
    Of that groupo, ergo levers, aero seat post, and the front derailleur were the only components with engravings.
    .cinelli.olympic.surly.long.haul.trucker.kona.ku.surly.steamroller.
    .litespeed.classic.litespeed.firenze.bianchi.pista.dean.colonel.plus.more.

    Sweet project!

    I'll be very interested in your impressions of the classic Colnago handling. Did you do any research on the fork? I'm not sure whether or not they might have gone to different length forks with the move to straight blades. I also seem to recall that they tweaked the geometry right around that transition period.

    No I did not, I'll measure the fork when it arrives and see how it stacks up, either way I don't think it will be that adverse. The biggest variance maybe .5 degree on the head angle which isn't a lot, it could certainly be less than too.


    I'm on holidays right now on my way to Banff today. I perused a few bike shops in Calgary, but did not find a lot that I was in need of. I did find a cool looking bottle cage for my project, but they only had 1 I took it anyway because it was at MEC, and they should get more. It's and Elite Stainless Steel, and hopefully it does not blacken the bottles, becasue if it does, it's pitched, I hate that more than anything




    I also picked up a set or Campagnolo Syncros 2 Downtube shifters. So for the time being it looks like I'm going Classic... But I can always change that



    Finding lots of cool outdoor gear, but not a lot of vintage bike parts.

    The Frame arrived today!!

    While I'm excited that the frame is here and it looks very straight, it is just a bit rougher than I was wanting it to be. It's perfectly acceptable for a 24 year old frame, but it's not perfect. The paint has some chips, and the decals have some wear and tears. There are no dents or dings in the frame, and all tubes are straight.

    Some areas of the chrome could use a buff, and the paint could use a very good clean/polish.... I'm not sure what to do as to build it with the 24 year old patina, or strip it, repaint it and build it as new in 1982...

    If I was to repaint, I would need to find somebody in Canada that specializes in this, as I would like to make some slight changes to it. I know Rocky Mountain and Louis Garneau do repaints, however I'm not sure if they specialize in classic restoration. I would love nothing better than to ship it down to Joe Bell or Cycle Art, however the shipping and duties may cost more than i want it to. I'll have to look into this. Any Canadians or anybody else know or recommend of a place in Canada?













    So I can always just build it and ride it, or I can refinish while I collect the period correct parts. If I choose the latter, I'll be in competition with Rad's Tete for length of project time, however he has a 2 year head start on me


    I have secured some Record Delta Brakes, and a 1st Generation C-Record Derailleur, So the parts quest has been good so far.

    Hi ViperZ. It looks to be in pretty good shape in the pictures, but of course in person is quite another matter. If you can find someone to restore it including decals, it would be an amazing bike, on the other hand built out as is would be quite nice as well. Seems that you be hard pressed to go wrong, but I would vote for the restoration - so long as I don't have to pay the bills.

    Blandin, looking at it,it seems with some touch-up paint, polish and some TLC, it could look pretty good for a 24 year old frame, and there are some camps that would leave it original. The Chrome Decals on the jet black paint must have been stunning in it's time, and I have seldom seen a Master like this..... However part of me wants it to be perfect. I'll see about getting a set of Master Decals, and go from there while we mull it over.

    Correction, I have a 25 month, 3 day head start. I received my frame on July 6, 2004. It went to the painter on July 27th. Not that I'm keeping track...

    So, tell us about the brakes and the der.....

    BTW - beautiful frame - I know that whatever you decide, it's going to be fabulous when it's done.

    The brakes I got on ebay, they are coming from Europe



    The Derailleur is said to be NOS, never installed. However I think I paid more than I should have for it. I had no choice, these ones command top dollars as they are the most prized of the Vintage C-Records I'm told. I paid a fair price for it, but more than I should have (we wont talk about that anymore)








    BTW - beautiful frame - I know that whatever you decide, it's going to be fabulous when it's done.

    Thinking about it some more, I suppose I could do most of it myself. If I get a decal set, I could strip it, Polish the chrome like Rad told me (It does look to be chrome under the paint), have my local Auto body shop paint it, then I could take it home put the decals on it (I'm sort of particular about this) then take it back to have it clear coated.....

    C-record group has to be the most beautiful group ever made.
    Heavily priced though. Have an Italian my selves soon ready to go.

    Don't think I'll throw in the cash to do a full C-record buildup, but
    time will show.

    Lectron, thanks! I agree, C-Record is one of the most stunning groups ever produced by Campagnolo. Unfortunately it was expensive when it came out in 1985, and is just as expensive, if not more so to collect today

    Yours looks to be a nice build too, That will add to your fine collection.

    Dekerf? His website says he does repaints, http://www.dekerf.com/repaint.php I've seen some custom Dekerf paint jobs, they were stunning.

    Thanks Folks!

    That Marijuana paint is hilarious, that would really elevate the level of the Italian Stallion

    So I cleaned and polished up the paint on the frame, cleaned the chrome and touched up the chips with black paint. It's actually looking mighty fine now if I do say so myself. Certainly took it up a level

    I will not refinish it at this time, however may in the future, after I have worn it down a bit myself.


    Mariner, I'm going to use the Straight fork for now as I dig the look of it. I may pick up a curved fork if I ever see one looking for a home. Actually the Era correct Gruppo for this bike is Campagnolo Super Record, however I want to collect C-Record stuff for now.

    Maybe down the road I may convert this to a newer Campagnolo group, depending if I ever find my 1987 Colnago Master Pui in NOS

    This is going to be one hot bike. I've heard mixed reviews on the performance of the Delta brakes but they are certainly unique looking.

    Time to look for a NOS white Rolls with the blingin' gold badges.
