Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's quite a bit heavier than the Ti Flite, let alone the Fizik Carbon Braided I suppose thats the price a person pays for the classics

LOL! I really hate coming back here, 'cuz it makes me wanna find a new vintage frame as well and do the unthinkable (according to my accountant).

Those components alone will guarantee this will be one heck of a dream ride!

Thanks Drag, I have dreamt about a C-Record classic Italian Job for a long time. It may not perform as well as a modern day machine, but that's not it's purpose. It's purpose is to be like the vintage Ferrari taken out for weekend rides.

Accountant? Stop paying him and take his wages to build something

I hope my hubs, shifters..etc come this week.

I may not get to ride this thing before the season is up, but I'll try to find all the parts I need.

Oohhh.. Nice, Tough choice... Which ever one complements the look of the bike more

If you have a silver stem or Ti stem then the Chorus Ti for sure.

LOL. I shouldn't have brought it but it looked so nice and shiny! I already have too many seatposts, including a carbon one and a dura ace one doing nothing sitting in a drawer.

At least a few of them I'm running in bikes were picked up cheap (Thomson zero set back in track bike, Ritchey WCS, the dura ace I got for nothing).

Thanks 14Max for the seat post and Regal saddle!

The post I can definitely use until I get a Record post. The saddle, what can I say, even though slightly used, it has this certain patina and look about it that actually adds a bit of authenticity to the Italian Job. Holding it in place its as if it makes the bike look like it was original and not refinished. I'll have to post a picture of it one just to show, although pictures just don't convey the actual feel in person.
Glad they arrived safe and sound. If you're bound and determined to make it fully era-specific, the Regal will come in handy. You may want to find some C-Record pedals with clips and straps, too. However, I like certain creature comforts (familiar saddle, current pedals) and so my Serotta is a bit modern in some areas. Rad's classic is very similar in that regard...

I went through 4 saddles.

Rolls San Marco - an era saddle that was nice but not comfy.
Forte Pro SLX - my standard - but didn't look the part on the Giordie
Brooks Swift - my first Brooks - looked great. Took it off after one ride.

And finally, the one I settled on - the Speedmax RavX (or is it RavX Speedmax) - a rebadged clone of my favorite Forte Pro SLX in white. It may not be classic in any way, but it looks good and fits me arse just fine.

Excluding the Tete, when will you have a pics of your stable? It must be fairly impressive at this point...

I'll do a group shot after the Tete and the Pinarello are done. If I'm lucky, I figure that will be around February '08.

Viper - Sorry for the threadjack.

Rad - Regarding the Pinarello, what are your tentative plans?

Good god, what a gorgeous bike! Any chance you're going to get rid of Project Litespeed when you're finished with the build? I thought that one was the best looking bike I've ever seen, till this one. Can't wait to monitor the progress.

I fully understand what it's like to be attracted to shiny stuff It's nice having a parts inventory as well.

That Chorus seat post 14max gave me looks very nice on the bike.

No probs on the thread jack 14max, I always love talking bikes in general anyway, and seeing as it's Rad's even better

Thanks Monument Man! I'll probably hang on to Project Litespeed as it's a perfect all around rider The Italian Job is made more for fun and heritage.

So I got some more parts today, My new saddle. I think she's a beauty, and should look awesome on whatever bike I put it on.

That off color insert is actually a pearl white that looks beautiful in person

So it looks like the Italian Job may have a bit of new tech material after all with Titanium, Carbon Fiber and Kevlar in the saddle... Sweet!

I am happy to say, "I told you so!"

BTW: A ride report on the saddle would be appreciated, my friend insists it's the best saddle made and I'd like to hear your opinion.

Too late. I was going to suggest this saddle:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Selle-Italia-La-...em150033202352

Not in perfect condition, but having Fausto's name on it at least qualifies it for an "italian job."

While it is a very nice saddle as white saddles go, it does lend a newer modern look to the bike. The Black Titanium Flite seems to fit the part better, with classic good looks, and subtle elegance, where as the white Fizik ands a new element with a show piece look. The saddle is a stark contrast in comparision to the bike.

Abou tthe only way I'll get a ride report is to mount it on another bike It does look good on the Tuscany too!

Thanks, I'm not really big on those Fausto's saddles, but to each their own... That Regal 14max sent me is more suiting if I was to use a rivet style saddle.

I restored that saddle a bit and it actually is looking pretty good for now. I'll post a picture of that as well.

OK, seeing as I know you guys will riot with out pictures soon ( ) here are a few...

I don't know why every time I take pictures of this bike I'm compelled to take pictures of this area

For you Regal Fans out there, this really looks the part as well, and I like it!

I treated the saddle leather to a bit of hide food and it's looking better already.

I like the lines of the Aliante, it enhances the sleek lines of the bike. I think the regal, although right for the period, looks a little clunky.
