Need Help w/ New Wheelset - Vigors, 404's?
I know you are all sick of this question, but who doesn't want to kick a dead horse a few more times?
I have this dilemma - I have a few bucks to spend and I would like to get the most bang for the buck - I am in the market for a new wheelset for my Litespeed. I have been riding a pair of Ksyrium Equipes for 2 years (over 4k miles) and they have held up wonderfully. In fact, I have never had to true them. However, I have started racing of late, and feel the need to upgrade.
I can get a pretty good deal on a new pair of Zipp Clydesdale Clincher 404's, I just worry about their durability. Or, I could spend a little less and get a set of Rolf Vigor RS. I worry about their stiffness though and with the low spoke count I worry about bending them in half. I could then take the money I saved by buying the Rolfs and get a new fork, bar, etc. Maybe I should just use the money and lace up a power tap and get stronger rather than buying speed. I don't know.
I ride mostly longer road races (LOTOJA) but participate in crits every so often. I would like a wheelset that I can use on relatively hilly terrain, in races, fast club rides, and centuries.
Any helpful ideas? Any one with experience with either? I am open to andy and all suggestions?
I weigh in at 195-200. Budget is up to approx $1400.
