Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

jersey pockets

so, i put a post before about how to make the rear pockets not droop when you stuff em full of stuff. this is a related post. i recently made a drive up to mount tam to do some hiking and i saw a whole lot of roadies. i saw how they were all dressed and how the rear pockets did not droop at all even with a full water bottle in one pocket. how does one do this? some of them seem to have their jerseys folded or tucked up somehow. how does one do that if they wear bibs? i'd really like to get my rear pockets to not droop. im trying to not have to go to another jersey.

it's not a skill, it's the way the jerseys are designed/cut/made.

some are a little shorter, and end above your hips (assos, biemme, amongst others).

some run longer, and end at your ass, leaving the pockets plenty of 'bulge' (pearl izumi, giordana).

Maybe your jersey is too big? I'm not really sure what you mean by drooping anyway.

I have sensed this weighty jersey issue also. I have not liked this sensation. And , I just don't like stuff hanging on my back. Whether it be a backpack or bulging jersey pockets.
I found a pretty sleek, aero, vinyl handlebar bag made my Madden. IT has enough capacity to take the overflow, so I don't have to stuff my jersey pockets.

Get better quality (or at least different material) jerseys. Generally speaking, the cheap ones are made of a blend of spandex that stretches more than, say, Craft, or for sure, Assos etc. I have 1 or 2 jerseys that droop and a bunch more that don't. Like others have suggested, it's not a skill.

i mean, i wear a Giordana Forma jersey. i think that's pretty high end interms of cycling jerseys, are they not? but i'll definitely look into Craft and Assos as you mentioned. they have nice looking jerseys as i recall. im looking for a really bland, one or two colored jersey. nothing real fancy and eye catching. thx for the input.

Just before you get on the bike get someone to staple the jersey to your back. At least that's how the guys on Jackass do it.

Sounds like your jersey is too big. It should be quite snug. Whe you try it at a bike store, sit on one of the bikes and hold the bars. It shouldn't droop in the stomach area. It should feel like a second skin.

I had that problem... jersey was just too big. It was too big around, and it was too low as well. Got some smaller jerseys, and that fixed the problem.

i agree, too big. i have jerseys in different sizes(L & XL) from the same manufacturer, and the bigger sizes droop like crazy, the smaller size keeps everything snug. they almost always feel a little too small to start but end up being the ones i always grab. lycra/polyester stretches with a few wearings always too.
