Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

And this type of behavior is why roadie get a bad rap
What behavior is that?

He just demonstrated how he was fitter, stronger, and more skilled than the MTB'r who insulted him. I see nothing wrong with that. He did nothing illegal or harmful other than hurting that guy's pride. And did it all on a road bike! Sweet!

I don't know that it hurt the guys pride. I'm pretty sure that they thought he was an a$$ though. I know I would have even if I was impressed with his riding.

I know I would have been more inclined to think "wow, look at that idiot" than I would have been to think "wow, that guy is cool, he's willing to risk damaging his road bike just to show me how "cool" he is."

In the adult world you have to learn to just shake your head and ignore stupid things and stupid comments.

I think the worst is break and brake. Such as "which disc breaks are best?".

AHHH! That is the problem with trying to a grammar officer. One has to be perfect. I will just blame it on my 100 wpm typing speed.

What about when people don't know when to use apostrophe's with their plural word's?

Do you mean trying to be a grammer officer? I think it's time we demoted you to lieutenant

Although 100 wpm is a good excuse.

Wow, talk about a thread jack

That's one that bug's me as well. I'm by no means the world's best speller but I at least try to be grammatically correct. Some people just don't give a crap.

It's a problem when there are issues with grammar. Everyone here (mostly) has been through high school. Although some words can throw you through a loop, they're quite simple, really. I will not give anyone a break for mistakes in grammar. The English language is falling apart, and its only chance of survival is the persistant policing of responsible forum members everywhere, and their commitment to an error-free society.

hehe.. Just wanted to incorporate a bunch into a paragraph. And yes, I know that last sentence was incomplete. And yes, I know it's not formally acceptable to start sentences with "and."

I always have considered starting a public grammar campaign, in which I would print out a bunch of signs that contain common grammar errors and their corrections. I would tape these signs to any public sign or publication that contained an error (and they are everywhere--it's quite embarrassing, really--announcement boards, menus, storefronts. I've even seen a sign that read 'you need a "key" to use the bathroom'... why is "key" in quotes??) But then again, that would require work. And it would probably make me an *******.

You can have your thread back now, I think.

Oh one more thing: when you say the phrase "that's a whole nother thing..." ...what the HELL is a 'nother'??? this is complete nonsense! betcha never thought of that before, did ya?

Um... I think you meant "throws people for a loop."
