Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'd go for the Giant. Depends on your riding though. What's the group/pricing difference?

Bicycle brands and models vary a lot from country to country. The models you list are not available (under those names at least) in the USA, so I cannot give you any specific advice. Both are good brands, so you can't go wrong if the bike fits you and your riding style. I say take some test rides and buy whatever fits you the best.

P.S. In the USA, Merida bikes are sold under the brand name "Specialized".
