Finding a Bike Frame
Alright, I just bent up my '87 trek 330 reynolds 531 at the back part of the bike where the rear derailleur attaches as well as the wheel. I'm thinking about getting it welded back and hopefully restoring some strength to the particular part of the bike. It bent when I was going uphill and I downshifted, the chain popped off, got lodged between the freewheel and spokes and brought the bike to a screeching hault.
This made me realize, even though the bike was barely used (teeth on freewheel are fine, chain brand new, frame has minor wear), I should be looking for a new bike. I'm planning on building my first bike from an already manufactured frame or frame/fork combo to the finished project. This way, I'll have what I want and I'll get that sense of accomplishment of putting the bike together.
My question is, where is the place that I can find the "cheapest" quality frame? Right now I'm looking at the Sceantte frame/fork on Performance (7005 aluminum). This bike will be used mainly for riding a little bit each week (150 or so) and possibly in the future for triathlons (olympic most likely) and a few minor races.
So, what do you guys think about the frame at performance? Or is there a better option that's around the same price range? I've been keeping an eye on ebay, but haven't been able to find much in my size (59 - 61 c - t) that fits the range of the performance frame.
