Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How did he get hit...given that he was in a ditch, separated by a white line and 2' shoulder?

That would mean that the driver had to go out of his way to hit him. Obviously the driver either lost control or is one pathetic imbecile of a driver.

There wsa a story about 10 years ago - a teenage driver killed 5 pedestrians because she was fu*king around with the stereo instead of watching the road. Drivers, in general, have no idea of the power they wield.

It only said he was in the ditch when she left him. Possibly he was back on the bike, catching up, when he was hit.

In any case, an inspirational story turned very, very sad.

Sad Sad Sad story to read. It makes me want to quick my job. I found myself riding hesitantly in the street all day today after hearing my fellow messenger died.

What a bloody awful thing to happen on what was supposed to be the trip of their lives. Makes me sad and angry at the same time.
