Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Saw New 2007 Specialized Roubaix

Saw the new 2007 Specialized Roubaix models at my LBS. I forgot which models they had. Elite I think. They had a set of blue one and one white white one. I believe both kinds had Shimano 105. They also had the new BG Avatar saddle on them. It is a new design that doesn't have the stitching the old one has.

Here is a pic of the blue Elite I saw.

i didn't see any of the bikes in person.... but i got to see the dealer's book... and the new s-works ruby is GORGEOUS! the "regular" ruby's are pretty much the same... just a few component changes... but that s-work ruby... DROOL!!!!!!!!! i wonder if i can justify a new bike (my ruby is only 8.5 months old!)

Sounds like a good update to the Avatar. The line is pretty much unchanged for 07 with the main addition being the S-Works SL and the fact that the Elite (I was told) will now be a SRAM bike.

I really wish Specialized and Cannondale would get their web sites up with the 07 bikes.

Same here. I was at my LBS yesterday afternoon and had a chance to take a look at the new Specialized 2007 dealer catalog. In particular, I saw the specs for the new Tarmac SL and noted little change. What is impressive is the appearance of the new Roval Rapide wheels: just phenomenal (see https://www.cyclingnews.com/tech.php?...ized_2007_road for the reference). I do not ride tubulars so have no plans to purchase them, but they are eye catching to say the least, although a bit on the heavy side. I am also please to see the change in the Barmac system. The Pro shoes.... meh.... orange... hmmm - not my cup of tea. The new compact crankset will be a nice addition to the lineup, though.

Take care,
T

I also looked at the dealer's book and despite having a 2006 Roubaix Expert, I really want the new S-Works Roubaix. I like the subtleness of the carbon and silver version. You can see the 2007 models at this website:

Now darnit that site shows bikes that go against what my LBS told me. If they changed the frame I want the new frame damnit. They show the Comp as the same design as 06 but the Expert and Pro to be the new design.

Also shows the Elite having 10 spd 105 instead of SRAM?

It pains me to say this (because I actually like the 2006 Roubaix) but the first thing I thought when I saw that pic was this:

I think I'll pass.

I just confirmed with my LBS that the Expert in the US will be sporting the SRAM Rival group. Also the photo with the Expert having the new style frame is correct, the Expert and Pro models will have the new frame which is a single layup rather than the 3 pc layup that the current Roubaix uses.
