Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My SLR didn't last too long either. The leather cover started peeling off to the point where I had to strip it completely off. After that, I decided to clean off all of the padding on the nose of the saddle leaving only a bit of padding over the area where my sit bones locate when I sit back on the saddle. Whenever someone asks about it, I tell them that it's a "tuned" Selle Itallia SLR and that it now weighs less than the 135 grams shown on the leather cover.

I'm a Brooks B-17 believer for life.

BTW Mariner that maroon color is beautiful. I'll have to get one of those for my next bike.

That's an endless loop, where you'd never get to 30 WORK.

Consider:
Code:

20 RIDE BIKE	REM Yeah!
30 LOOP
40 GOTO 10

I am still looking. I have both the toupe and the Arione and they are both fine up to 50 miles or so. After that my sit bones feel like they are coming through my skin. Pedal Pedal stand......pedal pedal stand.....

Fizik Arione is my favorite
Specialized BG saddles in various widths to suit your body type ... my next favorite
Brooks or Selle An-Atomica ... I'd love to try one of these in the near future!

Good luck!

I got rid of the Specialized Avatar gel saddle - what a piece of junk that was, hard and heavy! In the interim I replaced it with a Fizik Ti 'plateau' saddle (there's another name for it I'm sure) it's not really a road saddle, but far lighter and more comfortable than the execrable Avatar. I'm not too anxious to find a 'permanent' replacement.

It's the combination between the groove and that flipped up back that really fits me.
Also, like you, i prefer a quite firm padding. The don't make the Night Train anymore, but I think the FX is more ore less the same.
An other good thing. It's not leather. Rains a lot around here

I now have 3 ASPides (Night train) to go with all my bikes, except the colnago which deserves something more time right.
And here's the more time right:

Brooks. Had B-17, currently have a Team Pro. I ordered a B-17 again though as it is way more comfortable to me than the Team Pro.

started with a selle italia rolls years ago, switched to a flite as soon as they came out and have used it for years. at the same time as i was riding on the flite, i was also riding on a san marco titanio which i perched my posterior on until april.

i've been on a fizik aliante since then. never planned on keeping the stock saddle on my giant, but +/- 4K miles later and i'm happy enough with it.

Selle Italia SLR Gelflow. It has a cut-out for the soft bits and a bit of give for a softer ride.

selle san marco era and a selle san marco regal. they make great saddles that seem to last forever (unlike selle italias),my era is like 8-9 years old and still in great shape. i'd like to try their rever model.

Here's my butchered Brooks Team Pro. It was honey colored, but saddle oil, proofide, and a few gallons of butt sweat have weathered it like a baseball mitt. Took a little bit if fine-tuning to get the positioning perfect...but it IS perfect. Went from thinking about my sore butt (Flite) instead to my weak legs.

Swifty,

That's a purty ride.

I ride a Fizik Arione -- not a racer, just recreational, but it works for me.

My favorite saddle is the Selle San Marco Aspide, very good seat. My second seat is the Selle Italia Storika, the rivets are a little bit of a pain, but you can get a sewn model, and the seat is super lite.

Tried a Toupe and it didn't work out. Running a ProLink Gel Flow right now with a Terry Fly on the way. I'll try the Fly for a month and go from there. Arione and Aliante also didn't do me any favors (just tried an Arione and it cut the diamond shape into my butt after about 30 miles.)
