Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't see poo on the spec list....your title specifically stated that there would be feces involved....

EDIT: Oh....and buy some replacement spokes now for those Shimano wheels. By the time they come in you'll need them. <not meant as jab, but actual words of advice>

So, how well does the Nashbar/shimano cassette work with the Xenon shifters?

Just curious.

You deserve special award for the most bastardized setup on a new bike I've seen for quite a while.

What's more interesting, is you've got alot of bombproof stuff on there. All you need is some Armadillos, and you've got a serious rain/commuter bike there. It won't surprise me if that thing is still going strong in 20 years.

Can't argue with that. But for this build, all I really needed to buy was the frame, fork, headset, & the cassette- I had all the other parts as spares from other builds.

But man, this frame is STIFF! As can be expected, it's also harsh. Maybe a crit racer?

I got a replacement out of a wheel that a customer had ditched at the LBS because he hated it and they charged me $3.

I still ride cheap wheels, but they are now ones with normal spokes that I can find anywhere. Spokes break...but those Shimano ones left a bad taste in my mouth. I just thank god that tatse isn't asphalt (the rims ARE bulletproof).

The WH-R500 wheels use normal spokes with the nipples at the rim, not like the rest of the Shimano wheels with the nipples at the hub. Are they still proprietary?

I see. You appear to be correct. I have the 550's and assumed that the 500's followed the same design. Ride on with confidence.
