little fun on the mtb

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

little fun on the mtb

so yesterday i did a fast kick my @ss 118 mile ride through the Palo Alto MTNS yesterday. Legs hurt so im thinking a nice recovery ride is in order. Well it just doesnt feel right to go slow on the roadbikes so i took out my trusty lightspeed Ti HT MTB. That just so happened to have just been rebuilt 2 weeks ago (new minute2, xtr shifters, cables, XT drivetrain etc).

The thing is dialed - grab the mp3 player and the sidis and headed out. First couple of miles I jammed through my neighborhood and looked for the occasional oppurtunity to bunny hop here and there. Got bored and headed out to the main street to hit the bike path.

Not more then a few minutes a roadie comes gliding up - here we go, could i keep him in sight, would he notice my clean shaven legs LoL? He looked fit. I slid down behind him and gave him a big smile - green light we take off. I stayed off his wheel about 15 ft to not be rude but the sound of my mtb tires sounded like a 1ton truck on swampers LoL. He started giving me hand signals and im like sweet. We both take a right hand turn and he isnt going to fast (maybe cuz im on his ass) so i downshift and fly by him, upshift and start laying into the pedals curious if he would try to hold my wheel? Nope lost him or he turned off or something.

jammed over to a local mut and did the 8 mile loop and headed home. now im on the other side of that same main road and there is a nasty headwind (used to it when i commute) here comes another older gentlemen huffing and puffing trying to stay out of the wind. I roll up and by him and tell him he is more then welcome to take my wheel (which if i was huffing and puffing like he was you wouldnt have to tell me twice) i jumped in front and started laying into it trying to focus on my stroke...couple miles later where I turn off I turned around - **** cyclist was half a mile down the road.

wondering if i can inspire any Knave stories heh - im currently training for the Lotoja which is my big race of the year so im pretty close to my peak (race is in 3 weeks) and feeling pretty strong. Was fun in a  kind of way...if the wife will let me i may head back out in a couple of hours heh

All in good fun of course, and its great to be back on the MTB that ive been neglecting for the last 2 years hope your all enjoying your weekends! Weather is perfect out here in the Bay Area

I was telling my buddy yesterday while we were riding that next year im going to show up to a crit in cut off jeans and a wife beater for some laughs...
