CFR LE gets some bling, bling (pics)

I haven’t built up a bike since spring and with no prospects in hand, I decided it was time for my 3 year old Scattante CFR LE to get some upgrades as follows:

Token TK973 Mono-Q Carbon Handle Bar – 241 grams (actual)
Token TK935AC Carbon Matrix CNC Alloy 7075 Stem – 123 grams (actual)
Pedal Force Carbon Seatpost – 162 grams (actual)
Specialized Toupe Saddle – 165 grams (actual)

This is my largest frame, 60cm, and with the new additions the bike now weighs in at 17.26 pounds which isn't bad for a large frame and the plus 1500 gram Spinergy Xaero's.

I just got everything on late this afternoon and haven’t had a chance to test ride it in its new form, but it looks really good and I am sure I am going to like the new additions.

Thanks Rad - I hope they deliver a ride corresponding to their looks. It will be Tuesday after work before I get a chance to check them out and I can't wait. As to the in-line gear indicator - I have them on all but one of my bikes, sure beats looking down and back at the cassette to see where you are.

Yea, I don't have it on the Campy bike and find myself looking down - and the fact that there is only 7 down there makes it all the more difficult.

As to where to get the inline gear indicator - check with your LBS that handles higher end road bikes. Lots of shops take them off the bikes they get and resell them through the service department. Usually just a few bucks. Also, I've seen them on Ebay from time to time.

Like Rad says, check with your LBS or ebay for the gear indicators. They come standard with Dura Ace groups, so I have had them out of the gate on my DA equipped bikes, for my Ultegra groups, both 9 and 10 speed, I have picked them up on ebay. For those who would like them and not have to wait to find one,

The funny thing is, I recently took off the carbon cranks that came with bike and replaced them with with the aluminum DA 7700 you see in the pictures.

Thanks JBD. The DA STI's came on the bike when I bought it in February of 2004 and don't really look any different than the other DA 9 shifters that I have, but I agree, they do look nice.

Looking excellent and badd-assed Blandin! It has a very nice Race Car look to it that I dig, but then you know Carbon & Titanium is my weakness

Bars look good, and have a nice shape to them.

Must be tough deciding which one of your many Kids gets the new school clothes


Rad, I have a Dura Ace in line Gear indicator that I do not use (due to Flight Deck), Maybe I should use on the Italian Job?

I understand what you are saying about the lesser number of gears, the more you have to pay attention and look back to see what gear your'e in. With my 10speed Campy I thought I would really miss the gear Indicator that I love so much on my 9sp Flight Deck. However I find when riding my 10sp Campy system, I seldom look down and back, if ever, because 10 gears seems to give me enough range that I have not run out of gear, thus I don't need to care or look..

I suppose it helps also having a corn cob cluster of 12-13-14-15-16-17-18-19-20-21

Unlike some of us . . ., I haven't found a new frame to build up even though I am sitting on two complete groups just waiting for a home. That said, since my last build I have bought two sets of custom wheels, several new stems, a few new saddles, and now the carbon bars and stem for the CFR. Not a satisfying as a build project, but fun nonetheless. Waiting to see the next installment on your Colnago Master.

Ahh, thank you, I didnt know there was such a change in the appearance from the DA 9s to the 10s...
I guess i just like the aesthetics of the 9s over the lump of the 10s:

I have DA 10 on my Allez Pro and although the hoods may look a bit different, they are very comfortable.

JBD, Everything except the '01 KHS Flite 800 and the '04 Scattante were build projects based on NOS frames, so the years don't really apply as all 5 of the build projects were undertaken in '05/'06. As I mentioned somewhere above, I have two full groups, 9 speed Ultegra and 9 speed DA, just waiting for a frame. With all the recent old school projects being highlighted in the forms I'm thinking something older rather than newer might be in order - time will tell.

looks great! seems like they changed their frame geometry over the years. i have an '06 CFR and the top tube is angled more up rather than down like yours. had any problems with the brand at all?

meatwad79, The only problem I've had with the bike was discovered shortly after I purchased it; there was an indication of delamination at the top edge of the steer tube where the fork was trimmed prior to assembly. SuperGo replaced it with an Easton SL 90 without issue - an nice upgrade by the way. Other than that, it's been great and a real pleasure to ride.

I have to say, the older DA set up looks so much cooler than the new stuff, not to say the new stuff taint sweet, but I have always liked the older stuff...(except for the 06 DA crank)

I like the upgrade. It's a worthy addition. The bare carbon matches well with the older Scat frame. Let us know how that new Specialized saddle works out for you as well.
