If you could have any bike...

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Frame and fork is $4,000. My '01 Ellsworth Flight is made with Easton Ultralight Tubing and is a real pleasure to ride, I can only imagine what this baby would be like.

Patriot, I met the guy who owns this bike. He had to wait two years for it. My daughter and I were out and met up with him outside of Waxhaw, NC he was headed up to Virginia. It was even prettier in person.

I started cycling in the very late 80s. I was in college then, and bought the best bike I could afford at the time - a $400 Trek 850 mountain bike.

Nearing the end of my undergrad, I lent the Trek 850 to a friend on a permanent basis and built up a Cannondale mountain bike from the frame up. Along the way I also picked up up a Trek 1400 road bike I bought from a friend, but I was still mainly a mountain biker. But during those years - cycling in the 90s - the big draw was always titanium. Sure, carbon fiber was on the scene but only in the names of Kestrel or Look and the prices were astronomical. Of course, among this time came the advent of titanium bikes in the likes of Merlin and Litespeed.

Anyway, even with my degree, owning a Merlin or a Litespeed was out of the question. So I kept riding my Cannondale, wherever and whenever I could, up to the latter half of the 90s when my career and my marriage consumed me.

Anyway, after an 8+ year hiatus, I have since rediscovered cycling - mainly out of doctor's orders (I never got into running). But, man oh man, where have I been? One thing I realized quickly, though, was that my financial situation has changed since I first bought my first Trek mountain bike, so I decided to just make a dream come true. I didn't even consider carbon fiber. Two weekends ago, I picked up my dream bike: a titanium Litespeed...

Anyway, it's been a great 4 weeks! This forum has been great too!

I'm with all the Raleigh Chopper & Stingray guys: Make mine a Schwinn Krate in Apple Green!

...err, that is, *after* I get a BMC Time Machine TT01, a Moots Vamoots SL w/ Campy Record, a VeloKraft NoCom, a Cannondale Prophet 4000, a Richard Sachs Signature, and a new saddle & wheelset for my Cannondale Synapse Carbon 2.

And a garage big enough to keep them all.

Easy one. The 1986 Pogliaghi with the "retinato" paint scheme featured in Bicycle Guide that year. I also want the girl on the cover of that issue of the magazine.

Last season I was riding a late 80s steel bike (which I still love) but I was lusting something carbon and Italian (Colnago, Pinarello, etc.) with C-Record knowing they were WAY out of my budget....so far out that I wasn't even in the market for a new bike. Then I was introduced to the 05 Fuji Pro at my LBS. I rode it. I bought it. I lust no longer. If I had $5000 or better to spend on a bike I would hands down pocket half of that and buy my Fuji again.

Zombie revival after a decade! I noticed I had posted this in the thread ten years ago (in August, 2006), months before I took delivery of my 953 Waterford RS-22 in May, 2007.

So nearly a decade late....

Dave Wages (Ellis Cycles) built the frame, and it remains my favorite ride.
