Ride in Wisconsin - C'MON ALONG! (pics)

I've got the day off, heading out of town for a ride, about an hour's drive north of Milwaukee - C'MON ALONG!

We're going to start in the Kettle Moraine State Forest, parking at the Zillmer Hiking Trails (also for cross country skiing).

The wind is out of the east, so lets go that way first.

At 3k, the first town is New Prospect, WI, population 10? Pretty much just a store/bait shop and a bar and grill. As you can see, we're already getting into farm country.

One kilometer after we leave town, we start into Sheboygan County which has NICE roads!

    (Continued) ....

Traffic around here is minimal, and they are very courteous to cyclists.

Most of our ride is gently winding, and rolling. We won't ride over a single crack for miles!

A long, slow climb into the wind here, but the view is nice, and we get a reward later.

We hear a *BARK BARK BARK!!!* from a nasty looking dog ...

... but I've never seen him reach the road before we head down this LONG downhill (40mph easy!)

Looking back ... awesome climb ... but there's a dog at the top!

We turn left on to county road "SS"

    Which turns into "28"

    (continued) ...

A 'sign' of good things to come:

We're half way now, turning left, the wind at our back ...

and UP!. Yeah, it hurts ...10 to 12% easy, but it's short.

A few K later we get this wall:

    Halfway home:

The wind is at our back, and the scenery is like this:

Almost home now, we reach the big town of our ride ... Dundee, WI POP 370

But I've got a side trip planned ... it's just down the road:

It's Kettle Moraine Lake ... where I used to spend my summers as a kid:

    Another view:

Well, the sun is going down now, and we've still got 5K to ride back to the car.

Hope you enjoyed the ride ... come back soon!

Great photos, JW! I love the Sheboygan County Line shot where you can see the pavement improve right at the sign. So typical!

Love riding up in Wisconsin. Had a blast at the Cream City Century out of Waterford last weekend. Get the miles in your legs so you can help Hip on his next century, whenever that might be....

Beautiful, I lived in Milwaukee and Racine in the 60's, haven't been back since the 70's. Lived half a block off Lake Michigan in Racine and it seemed the wind always came from the east, especially in the winter.

HA! That's my daily commute for 2hrs each day. Luckily I get more scenery like JW when it hits the weekend.

Nice shots!. How about that great pavement they have in secitons of WI. I told Hip that he HAD to give me the name of their paver before I left. I LOVE his work!

    Nice report.

Interestingly, I don't think I've ever seen one of those snowmobile signs before.

    HA!
We have some with tractors on them too.

In fact, during our Sunday century ride, I believe at one point I heard one of riders in our BF group shout out, "Tractor Up"....

    - That was me. I think that may have been the first time I've yelled that.

I never carry a camera because it is too damn big for a ride. Do you guys use one of those little dohickey cameras to take your pics.?

I would post my rides but damn, I am not carrying a bulky digital with me!

Talk about potential "crushing of souls" on the roads!

I laughed out loud when Psimet hollered "tractor up!" but then realized I'd better stay to the right! On those tight farm roads, a John Deere can take up a lot of real estate....

    - I didn't want the farmer to accidentally start harvesting cyclists.
