Popped a chain

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm using a Mavic 10 spd chain right now that so far I really like. The Mavic chains are made by Wipperman. Another chain I've been wanting to try is a KMC X10 SL Gold. Buddy of mine uses them and loves them. Says he gets waaay more mileage out of them than anything else. He rides ~300 miles/week, so I trust his opinion.

if the chain is not too old, get a master link. when you say popped a chain, what exactly do you mean? what kind of chain was it? 10 speed? today on a climb, I saw a guy on the side of the road messing with his 10 speed chain (at least I thought it was a 10 speed chain because I saw the 10 speed DA crank).

I personally don't like the whole concept of 10 speed. for the most part what you get is another cog, but you range is not increased, just another cog within the range that shimano and campy already offer. the cogs are thinner and chains are thinner. they are wear out faster and cost more than 9 speed. plus they are more likely to break...imho.
