Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've been looking at Orbea's myself. They look really nice. I've never test rode one but I contacted a local dealer to see if they have a good stock so I can go by and check them out. Please post about it once you get it. I wan't some good info from Orbea owner or users.

Before I bought my Kestrel I was looking at Orbea and test rode the Onix. That is really a great bike, you'll be very pleased!

Is there any reason why you're just looking at the Onix?

well, it's really because im looking for an "exotic" bike. dunno if that makes ANY sense at all. but anyways, i was thinking about the specialized roubaix comp double. but after reading about the supposed zertz dampeners which according to some posters here DOES NOTHING. i decided to search for another bike. besides, the specialized is not exotic for anything. i read good reviews about the orbea and i like to climb. the orbea seems to be a good choice. i'll post the details after i test ride it.....which could also very well be the day i take the baby home! to finally answer your original question...i chose the onix because im looking for a bike around 2000 - 2500 bucks. the onix has what i like: 105 components, a compact crank. sorry for the essay. lol.

FWIW...Orbea's caron road bikes are consideres some of the hottest and best designed of all the bikes out there...

Yeah...I know...this looks very pedestrian...but really it's supposed to be a pretty decent ride...

I've ridden a few Orbeas, and the Opal is really nice. Super stiff and light, but the new Orca is supposed to be better in both ways. I dont care much foe the looks of it though, except for that cable routing on the steerer tube. That's hot.

Picture two. Look very close. Is it just me or does it appear the badge/router kinks the cable just enough to slow shifting?

That bike is HAWT, though.

Orbeas are very popular in Spain, but not so much in the US. I was in the same boat, looking for an 'exotic' carbon frame, I just didn't want something like a 'plastic giant ', specialized, trek, cdale etc. that you see all over the road. It's an incredibly superficial attitude, but hey that's me. If the Onix fit me better, I definitely would've went for it as it delivered a great ride. Let me know how your trip to the LBS goes!

Love my Orbea Dauphine. Aluminum with carbon seatstays. I had never heard of them but the Treks at the LBS didn't seem to fit me; the Orbea did. Last time I was in the shop, an older gentleman had just purchased an Orbea Lobular. Sweet looking bikes. When it's time to upgrade, I'll definitely have Orbea on the short list.

thanks for the support. im heading down to the lbs in the morning. im gonna be there before they even open. im uber anxious! infact, i was supposed to go this morning but i was having really bad dreams last night that kept me from going due to severe lack of sleep. wanna know what dreams? i dreamt they didn't have my size, that the color wasn't what i wanted, even down to the details...they couldn't swap for a shorter stem! OMG! i need sleep tonight if im to have a decent rest ride tomorrow. btw guys, would you recommend me going to take a test ride in full gear...shorts, jersey, shoes, and pedals? or just the shorts and shoes with pedals? im kinda new to this. and any suggestions as to what size might be right for me? im about 5 feet 11. thanks. i know that whole sizing question is vague but please bare with me. im not as pro as you guys.

After trying countless bikes, the Dauphine made it to the top three. At that point, I felt all three bikes were great. However, the paint just didn't do i for me (great quality!, but just not the color combo for me). I found it to be a hidden gem in the bike shop.

Bought a Orbea Lobular this spring. I love the bike. I tried numerous other bikes and the Orbea fit me and my needs better than other brands. Stiff for climbing and excelent handling. Orbea geometry is different from most manufactuers that are commonly sold in the USA. When I was shopping I took jersey, shorts, shoes and even my own pedals. Good luck.
