Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Portland riders: Peach Century 9/24

I need to finish the season strong! Who's in?

100 mile route map and profile.

Of course, the proverbial questions is - how's the pavement? lol

It's 96 miles, so you'll need to ride out and back an additional 4 miles... or do the harvest century in October to get the 100 miles in!

Yeah, the Portland Century was 98 miles. But I figured if they called it a century, who was I to argue after 6 hours in the saddle.

Count me in for the Peach, hopefully on my new bike. I'm thinking about the Harvest as well, but probably the 75 mile option.

The peach looks like it'll be 106 miles this year. It was to be 102 but they had to add 4 miles as part of a detour for a road closure.

https://www.salembicycleclub.org/majrides/majrides.html

As probably mentioned previously, I'll be there with some TnT cyclists as a mentor. Whether or not I'll be riding with the group is yet to be established as we've got a tiny tiny team.

i'll be there as well, depending upon weather. i did it two years ago with no rain, and it was a blast. i love the bumps in the middle of the ride....

we'll have to paceline the last 20, though. i remember that being super windy last time... so no han solo for me.

I'm in too if it's dry. I've been doing mostly dirt lately, so I'm bound to be slow......

Oh, so there's enough climbing on the ride to grace us with your presence? I thought you only did centuries w/ 10K feet of climbing minimum?

Same story here. I got an Xbox 360 not that long ago, and I've played more hours of madden 07 than I have ridden my bike in the past month

My friend just took off for Europe and left me his Xbox 360 for the next three weeks. I think I can relate. Have you tried Prey yet?

yikes! xbox is the devil incarnate! Just remember in January when you're bored off your gourd you'll wish you had gotten some miles in the beautiful september days. At least, that's how I feel.

I suggest getting there early if doing day of registration. If the weather is nice, there will be a decent turnout as its kind of the last big ride of the year for alot of people.

Yes, there will be pie. The roads aren't the greatest so..choose your bike wisely. Its not as bad as the watermelon though.

I'll be on steel, but then again...I don't really have a choice.

Biking attire, usually lycra and a quick drying, light jersey.

Since you are a carbon unit, I recommend a carbon bike.
