Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just test rode some Cannondales

Went into an LBS today to look at bikes and found out that Cannondale was having a demo at a local resovoir until 7:00 tonight, (Lexington at the spillway for you Silicon Valleyites). Drove up there and rode a Six13, Synapse and a System6. Six13 was nice, smooth and it handled downhill and climbed really well. Comparatively, the Synapse was really sluggish. I took it up a pretty good hill and it did pretty well on the way up. The way down was a bit different. It wasn't anywhere near as nimble in the corners at high speeds but man, it did a really nice job on the straights. The System6 was the standout though, wow! Nice and stable, climbed beautifully and went down even better. It's stability is really decieving though, I was jamming down and feeling good when I decided to make things a bit more interesting. Did I say that it's got a short wheelbase? Man, talk about squirly but it recovered really, really well though. Overall, I liked the comfort of the Six13 but the System6 is hard to say no to. I can imagine that it would turn even the most casual rider in to an aggressive one. It even bunny-hops well!

That is all.

It gets easier to say no to the SystemSIX after you see the price tag. But it really is a sweet bike.

I'm not seeing a really compelling argument for the Six13, especially when you consider that it's the exact same geometry as the CAAD8/9 and the rides are, as the rep put it, almost identical. The Six13 that I rode today was full Dura Ace, really nice. It'd be pretty cool to A/B the Six13 with a CAAD8/9 to see what the real experiencial differences are.

I tried a System Six. Most noticeable difference over my CAAD 8 was the stiffness on climbs, and the rock solid feel on 50 mph decents. A nice ride 4 sure.

I've been telling the guys at my LBS that I'd be happy to test-ride (for 3 or 4 months) a SystemSix they have in the shop. But they haven't said yes. I don't know why.
