Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

new ride a-comin'

After lots o' research and test rides, and some input from you good people I decided on a Cannondale Carbon Synapse 2 (2006). The (great) LBS knocked a few hundred off of it. Will pick it up tomorrow and head on out for the maiden voyage (as an owner). Thank goodness I have a white garage door, otherwise no pics!!! Report to come....

Just out of curiosity, how did you get them to knock a few hundred off? I'm curious to see what kind of dialogue prompted this.

I bought an '06 model. The '07 bike that is the closest to my '06 has a slightly lighter frame but lesser components (IMO). The '07 was $200 than the '06, so the owner went a bit below the '07. I simply asked him what he would do on the '06 now that the '07s are in. He made an offer and I didn't haggle. I spent a lot of time in the shop and rode several bikes. I dealt with both owners, and both gave me a lot of time and good information. I felt comfortable with their service, and I know someone who likes the shop. The price was fair, and the service is excellent.

Can't wait to see it. A co-worker just bought one too but I haven't seen it yet. I've heard really good reports about the bike.
