What model peugeot do I have?
Hey everyone!
I recently bought an old peugeot road bike at a charity bike sale, and while I think its most likely a Uo8, the labels on the frame don't match any other Uo8 that I've seen before. I'm just wondering if anyone knows or can help identifying the exact model that I have? Thanks!

Unique Vintage Steel
Might want to post this thread over in Classic & Vintage. There are lots of Peugeot experts over there that I'm sure can help.

You need to post more detailed photos and info, including any wording on the frame, the serial number, and the brands/models of the drivetrain components.

Looks a lot like the U08 I had in the 70's except mine was white.

Jeez, it's a SPOKE GUARD!
The bike is hard to identify with those photos. It appears to be a mid level Peugeot from the early 80's.
Why do the forks appear to have been bent and then bent back sort of into shape? Is that real or a photo distortion?
There also appears to be some sort of gold sticker on the seattube. What does that say?

Thanks everyone for the help so far!! The pictures don't show the colour ( not that that would necessarily matter) but its bright purple, the only labels/names I could find were 'Cadre Allege Peugeot' on the gold sticker on the seat tube, the wheels say 'S.I.W Made In Japan' The gearing says 'Simplex' the brake levers say 'Dia Compre' the brake system says 'MAFAC "RACER"' on the seat the word sport is embossed, but the seat is in pretty rough shape, so other stuff could have been on there, and the footpedals say 'Lyotard'. The handle bars have thick foam on them, but I don't think it's original. I'll post more detailed photos when i get a chance. Thanks again for all the help!!

Although this doesn't really have much to do with my original post, but I have a seat to a Jamis Coda Sport (the bike itself was stolen about a month ago, the peugeot is just a temp replacement until I have the $$ to get another one). Is there anyone who knows if it's possible to switch seats, because the one on the peugeot is pretty uncomfortable. I tried doing it myself, but I was going to have to take the seat itself off of the seat post on the Jamis, and I wasn't able to do it successfully. Thanks again!!

Wow! Something seriously WRONG with that front fork! Steel or not, I'd be worried about riding on a fork bent that badly.

all of the peugeot's I've seen on the internet and in real life, apart from the labels, almost all have that shape to the fork. Is it just an old design or is there some serious concern that should be taken?

Yep, looks like a UO8. I bet it rides pretty nice. The UO8 was peugeot's mass-produced model. Those Mafac Racer brakes are amazing! They will slow you down quick in wet or dry weather. The simplex derailleur will last forever. More info + old peugeot catalogs in dutch: https://home.wanadoo.nl/peugeotshow/
It also looks like the bike is pretty close to original. Definitely not the original tires - those 'nylon' tires are available at toy stores and kmart and are not very grippy especially in the rain. The brake levers also look like they were replaced and maybe the wheels aren't original.
There was at least one builder that made wavy forks like that, I don't remember who I think maybe Mercian? I don't think Peugeot made wavy forks. For forks to get that bent you could probably find a kink in the frame, near the head-tube. If there isn't a dent or kink in the frame tubing - then maybe Peugeot did make wavy forks.
I hope you enjoy your new velo-francaise.

With the additional pictures it's pretty plain that is a low end Peugeot and I would say about 1980 or so.
Now that I was looking through 40x14's reference to catalogs you can see that it is probably from around 1975. The giveaway is the pump mounts under the top tube.
That makes it a UO-8 or so. It's have a lot of parts changes I suppose. It still has the original saddle though.
