Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Guess my time tomorrow

I have a goal for tomorrow, but it's not one of those huge goals that you put a lot of effort into chasing. It's just something to keep me interested since my bigger goal will have to wait until next week. If I know I have to post my time here tomorrow maybe I'll be a little more motivated.

Anyway, here's the deal:

Distance: 100 miles
Terrain: Flat
Weather: https://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/...eekday=Tuesday 60s and not very windy. I'll believe that wind forecast when I see it.

Bonus points if you can predict my average cadence.

You don't really win anything if you guess my time correctly. Maybe I'll send you an old dork disk or some unused valve covers

Five hours, fifty-eight minutes. Make my dork disc see-through, please.

I am gonna guess 6 hrs flat.

I would like a set of valve covers for a 1963 corvette.
If you meant valve caps never mind, I dont think you will finish the full 100

A have a chrome dork disk (I left it on. That's my Fred bike.) on an old Schwinn, but it doesn't have holes in it like that one does.

My timing system is a little strange, but it makes sense to me. The first and last 7.5 miles are on the bike trail and then a busy road, so I keep my computer off for that. I do that because my speed will depend more on how many people are on the path than anything else. It all adds up to 15 miles and I just call it an hour to be safe.

I won't stop tomorrow, so it's all bike time. If I have to stop at a sign to wait for cars I turn my computer off. Again, I like to keep track of the time that I can control because I feel like that gives me the best idea of how well I was riding that day. We could debate all of this, but let's just say that that's the way I time things and make your predictions accordingly.

I'll guess 6 hours 10 minutes real time, 4 hours 46 minutes posting your ride on BF time.

Wow, still no word from the OP?

Yup, looks like a DNF! (of course, he will blame it on a flat or something! )

Well, the server was down or something when I got back and then I had to go to work.

The Octopus wins. The time was 5:24.24. Cadence was 87. I was guessing 88, so I lose. It's like The Price is Right, you can't go over.

It was a pretty nice day out there, which was a nice change.

I win! I win! I win! I win! I win! I win! I win! I win! I win! I win! I win! I win!

Each individual is awarded a finite amount of nonreplenishable luck on entering this world, and I just used some amount of mine on this....

Congrats on a great ride! Wish I could have been out there today. It was gorgeous in C-bus.

Wait a minute....

DX, you did a century solo in 5:24 and that's all you write about it?

Wow.

Way to go.
I mean, if I had done that I'd be on here writing an epic novel about my battle and accomplishment.

Not you....no, just another 5:24 century on my own.

Yikes!
Must be nice....

I think I want to try your guessing game later this week here too....guess my time for my daily 26-mile ride! Yeah, that's it...maybe I'll try it and offer up a radio station T-shirt to the winner even!

It was flat. With the wind behind him he was doing 18 mph without pedaling....

4 hours and change for a flat century is a good time.

You think he pedalled downwind for 100 miles and got a ride back?

Yes, and so is 5:24. Anything under 6 hours is pretty rockin'. Very few cyclists can maintain over 20mph for a solo century.
