Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

do carbon steerer forks have a weight limit?

I weight #232 and it looks like I'm about to purchase a Flyte SRS3 frame that accepts a 1-1/8" integrated fork. I was looking at the Reynolds Ouzo Pro in the 43 mm rake. I assume that this fork is full carbon given the price. I ride hard but I rarely crash and am a smooth, careful rider. Will this fork work alright for me? Thanks for any input.

No, there is no weight limit for the Reynolds and it should work just fine for you.

On a side note, I understand what you are saying, but to say you are careful and rarely crash is just asking to have a crash. Everyone who crashes says they are careful.

With that, good luck on the build and post pics when you are done!!

You're right about the irony of overly cautious/ more likely to crash. You never really know. I guess the best way to up your bike handling skills is to RIDE all the time and in a variety of conditions. Its amazing how past bad experiences will shape future riding behavior, hmm .

Anyway, thanks for your encouraging words on the bike build.

Yeah, but the more you ride, the more chance to crash.

This could go on all day.

Actually, I have crashed, and will probably crash again, and I don't recall ever saying that I careful.

Sounds like there's no weight issue with the Reynolds fork but what about others? I was thinking about upgrading my existing fork on my Orbea to the Zeus FCM SL fork that they put on the ORCA. I called the local Orbea dealer and he said because of my weight (200 lbs.) his suggestion would to NOT go with a full carbon steerer. In his opinion only Reynolds or Easton fork would work, but they are expensive. Any thoughts?

Depends on each manufacturer. 200lbs "shouldn't" be a problem for any fork, but they put those limits on there to cover their ass.

Contact Orbea directly to see their opinion.

An Easton EC90 SL can be had for $250 at Performance Bike. Strength concerns is why I would favor the SL over the SLX, which weighs 50g less or so.

i have an alpha Q sub3, and according to true temper there is a weight limit of 200lbs. then again the fork is about 300 grams, so *shrug*, id say just check what the manufacture says.
