Compact frames & stem height
Im about to take the leap but I don't think i'll know what stem to get until I see the bike built up. I'm not crazy about the look when there is more than an inch left over.
For people who have compact frames with threadless headsets please state
1. your frame model
2. how much steerer tube you left
3. what angle stem you went with
4. are you satisfied with the setup?
Was your bike pre-built or did you decide how much steerer to leave? Did you decide after the bike was built up? If you leave too much can you reduce it later?

If you get a compact frame that is "equivalent" in size to your standard frame then you should use the same stem length and have the same saddle to stem drop. This is because the front end of a compact frame isn't designed differently from a standard frame.

However, to answer you questions directly:
1. 2001 Bianchi XL Titanium
2. About 2"
3. 80 degrees (ITM Millenium)
4. Yes (except that I wanted a 73 degree stem because I prefer the no-rise look)
Hope this helps.

So a 73 degree stem ends horizontal? I think I want a 90-degree stem.

Giant TCR Advanced Team in a small (equivalent top tube 53.3)
0 steerer tube left
steerer height 8cm (including stem from the top to the integreated headset
Stem angle 82 degrees
I'm very happy with the setup as I prefer a slightly lower position,
